Different Skin Treatments

There are many types of skin conditions that may require treatment from a dermatologist. Depending on the condition there are many types of skin treatments which your doctor may suggest. Among the many forms of skin treatments, Laser surgery plays an important role in treating the skin.

Laser Surgery: Laser Surgery is helpful in the treatment of various kinds of lesions and skin conditions. There are a number of skin problems that surgery can treat. Among these are scars, removal of tattoos, wrinkles and warts.

Scars: The most common reasons for scar formation are external injuries and skin infections like chicken pox. When the skin is cut deep the body sets in motion its inbuilt healing mechanism. In the process the skin, when it joins, leaves a scar on the surface. A scar may be sunken or having a hump. Lasers are brought to use to remove unwanted scars. A scar may not be removed completely in a single session. Multiple sessions may be needed to remove it.

Tattoos: Tattoos are a world-wide phenomenon, especially the decorative kind. Young people are attracted to tattoos and try decorating their bodies with various designs under the skin. Apart from these decorative tattoos, there are two other kinds - the permanent tattoo and the trauma tattoo. Permanent tattoos consist of permanent eyeliners or lipstick. Trauma tattoos are outside elements that get implanted, like dirt in the skin.

A surgeon may consider many factors while resorting to such kinds of skin treatments. These may be the person's age, skin type, age of the tattoo, type of tattoo and the size and depth of the tattoo.

Wrinkles: The method that helps removal of wrinkles with the help of lasers is known as laser peel. Laser peel is considered a safer method for wrinkle removal as there are minimal chances of scarring or crusting. Post-surgery care is just as important to avoid skin infection.

Warts: Warts are abnormal skin growth that is benign. They are hard to remove on their own. Laser surgery is, among other methods, considered a safe option for wart removal. Pulsed dye lasers are brought to use. These lasers produce short high-energy light flashes that help in removal of the wart.

Excessive exposure to the sun also leads to dry skin. Workers who handle certain chemicals without the protection of gloves can develop hard and wry skin.

Diabetics also tend to develop skin problems. A Hypo-thyroid (under active) also gives rise to dry skin. Reaction to certain drugs can lead to this skin condition.

Caring For Dry Skin Dry skin needs a lot of care. It requires tender handling if the skin is cracked or chapped. Water that is replete with deposits should not be used for washing skin. Mineral water or water treated with reverse osmosis process is gentle on the skin. Avoid using harsh soaps that remove natural oils from its surface. Never rub the skin on your face either gently or vigorously. Always tap it dry, gently with the help of a soft towel. Cleanse your skin thoroughly but caringly. Do not leave it dry. Keep it moist at all times. Apply plenty of moisturizer or oil. It will help soften the skin.

Even normal skin should be kept away from highly alkaline soaps. Wear a pair of gloves while washing linen. Detergents that contain washing soda and have high alkaline content are very harsh on the skin. Keep you skin moist. Splashing some water on your face, four to five times a day, keeps the skin moist and healthy.
