What Are the Challenges of Laser Hair Removal For People With Darker Skin?

Melanin is a pigment-producing cellular layer found in skin (epidermis) and hair. It provides the various shades of color we see in different skin and hair types. The main function of melanin in our external epidermal layer is to protect the skin from harsh sun by absorbing light. This means that people with darker tones are less prone to skin cancer. However, the light-absorbing properties of melanin can be dangerous when it comes to laser hair removal.

As techniques for permanent hair reduction have evolved, neither electrolysis nor laser hair removal were suited for people with darker skin tones. The melanin interfered with the treatment and made permanent results very difficult to achieve. Dramatic improvements in laser technology have opened up options for permanent hair removal for people with dark skin. Special lasers, skin cooling precautions, and an increase in the number of treatments all improve results when treating skin with more melanin. Consult with a specialist or practitioner in your area to discuss your concerns and learn about available options for laser hair removal on darker skin.

Lasers are highly-focused and very intense beams of light. Large amounts of melanin in the epidermis can steal that light away from the desired treatment focus (ie: hair follicle) or even cause grave damage to the epidermal surface. As such, it is vitally important to choose the right laser wavelength and technique when treating patients with darker tones.

Techniques used to protect dark epidermal layers from harmful effects of the laser include cooling the surface and using longer wavelengths that are not as easily absorbed by melanin. Cooling the surface may be achieved by using sapphire plates and running water, a chilled plate, or with a spray that cools by evaporation. Shorter wavelengths, such as UV light, are more easily absorbed by melanin. As such, lasers with longer wavelengths have been developed in an attempt to protect darker epidermis from harmful effects.

There are three main lasers in use today for hair removal and each emits a different wavelength of light. The Alexandrite emits short wavelengths of 755nm, the diode laser emits 810nm wavelengths and the Nd:YAG emits the longest wavelength available at 1064nm. Choosing a doctor or specialist that is highly skilled in the use of different wavelengths will ensure you receive the tailored treatment your skin type and pigment requires.

Most experienced practitioners will choose the Nd:YAG laser when treating patients with darker epidermis. The 1064nm wavelength is the least absorbed by melanin pigment in the skin, but is often still detected by pigment in the hair shaft. As such, specialists are able to destroy the hair shaft without affecting the surrounding epidermis. Other variables of laser tool use include pulse duration and how long the light stays on during treatment. Thicker hairs may require longer pulse duration than thinner hairs.

Using the wrong laser or incorrect setting on a patient with dark epidermis can have unwanted side effects such as scarring, pigment removal, or even burning and blistering.

Natural Creams Versus Skin Laser Treatment

Skin laser treatment can remove your existing wrinkles in a few minutes. However, not many people want you to know that you will have to use some creams and the final results will take up to two months to appear. If you take it this way, the entire process will last a couple of months and will leave a large hole in your budget. Is it really worth it?

I'm not saying that skin laser treatment is inefficient or useless. There are many cases in which laser treatment can be advised. Unfortunately, people who could solve their wrinkle problem easier usually end up trying surgery. There is no point in spending a large amount of money on an operation when you can just buy some effective creams and use them once per day with the same results.

While laser treatment is recommended for serious skin problems, creams can be used by everyone and they can work with any medical condition. Even more, they can offer impressive results. Most people don't expect creams to make wrinkles disappear because many companies are not completely fair in their commercials. On the other hand, some natural creams can top the effects of a complete skin laser treatment.

Depending on the seriousness of the problem, you can prevent, stop or reverse wrinkles if you find the right skin cream and learn how to use it. Besides getting rid of nasty lines, you will also get a healthier skin and a flow of vitamins and antioxidants in your body. All of these elements combined will make your body protect itself.

After a few weeks or even days, the effects of a reliable skin cream will be obvious and your skin will look completely different. Some of the main ingredients which offer everything you need are Coenzyme Q10, Wakame and Cynergy TK.

If you have a severe problem, you should consider trying a few creams and see if they offer any results. If nothing works, skin laser treatment can be the only option. It is worth trying it, but only after you eliminate your easier alternatives.

In a nutshell, always start with the simplest solution and end up with the complicated and expensive one. If you are lucky, you will solve your skin problems with a great natural skin cream in only a few days.

Taking Apart the IPL Laser

You may have heard someone talking about IPL treatment as if it were just another laser treatment for your skin, but that isn't entirely true. While IPL treatment does make use of a device that spreads wavelengths of light onto your skin just like any other laser treatment, there are some things that are quite different about the IPL laser used for these treatments.

Many people don't care too much about the IPL laser that is used in the procedure. As long as they get the results they are looking for, they are quite happy to go in for more procedures to keep those results.

This is understandable, but it's to your advantage to understand the advantages and shortcomings of using the IPL laser rather than other laser treatments. It could help you understand the results you get and make a decision between IPL laser treatment and other options out there.

IPL Laser Light

While all laser treatments spray light waves across your skin, the light used for the IPL laser is quite different. Other treatments use a single wavelength that is quite powerful at treating one small area of the skin at a time. This light is rather focused in one spot, so it does not spread out the way you would see light spreading out of light bulbs in your home.

The IPL laser is a bit different because the light does spread out much like those light bulbs in your home. This is because the light used for this treatment is really not a laser of light. It is light that spreads out with more than one wavelength. This is why technically you could consider IPL treatment to be light treatment, rather than laser treatment.

IPL Treatment Differences

Due to the differences in the IPL laser light used, this procedure is capable of combating a variety of skin problems at one time. The laser treatments that shoot one wavelength of light are quite effective at reducing wrinkles or tightening skin or reducing brown spots, and so forth.

IPL treatment is different because each of the wavelengths sprayed over the skin can combat a different problem. So, you get more bang for your buck as the IPL laser works to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while tightening up the skin, reducing brown spots and brown pigmented skin, and other problems you may be experiencing with your skin.

The Small Catch

If you could combat all of those problems with your skin at one time, why would there be any need for those other laser facial treatments? There still is high demand for single wavelength treatments because IPL treatment tends to be slightly less effective at any one single treatment than those stronger laser treatments that tackle one problem at a time.

For some people IPL treatment is still the best option because they can combat so many problems all at once. For others who may just have one imperfection to take care of, the stronger single wavelength laser skin treatments are going to be preferred.

You can use common sense to decide whether IPL treatment is right for you, depending on the problems that you see in your skin. Or you can always consult with a professional who offers a variety of laser facial treatments to see what they think.

Laser Face-Lifts - Resurfacing the Facial Skin

happinesslifetime.com Laser face-lifts are not really "face lifts" but procedures to take care of fine lines around the mouth and eyes. They do give a lift to the face by bringing out more radiance and making the face appear younger.

Laser resurfacing for the face uses a CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser to strip away layers of skin that has been damaged by scarring or that has fine lines. While this kind of procedure does not rid a person of wrinkles altogether, the results are less visible lines and clearer, more radiant skin.

The technique is often used with typical or mid face-lifts, making the combined results more dramatic. The face-lift takes care of the sagging and the resurfacing solves problems with fine lines.

The most intensive results from laser resurfacing occur during the healing process as new skin is formed, replacing older and damaged skin. This build up of new skin cells gives a more youthful glow.

This kind of resurfacing can be done lightly - taking off very little skin, or more deeply - taking off several layers. Often, the procedure is a combination of shallower and deeper resurfacing. The deeper resurfacing is done to remove more damaged skin, deeper wrinkles or scars. Healing time depends on how deeply the laser has penetrated.

It takes anywhere from a few minutes to an hour and a half to complete laser resurfacing. The length of time depends on how big an area is to be resurfaced and how deeply the laser must penetrate.

The procedure is not recommended for those with darker skin tones because of the risk of skin pigmentation problems. Those who have acne are discouraged from having laser resurfacing done as it can aggravate the condition and promote more scarring. However, when one's acne is gone and there are scars left, resurfacing can improve the skin's appearance in a big way.

It takes several days to heal from having a happinesslifetime.com laser face-lift and for several months, the skin will be extremely sensitive to the sun. Staying out of the sun or wearing protective accessories and sunscreen is recommended after having resurfacing done.

As with any other type of procedure involving the skin, there is a risk of infection. Be careful to note any extra swelling that occurs a day or so after having the procedure. Watch for increased redness, soreness and fever.

Cold Laser Therapy to Stop Smoking

Is there a treatment that can help people stop smoking without pain?

Quantum Brain Healing recommends laser therapy, herbs and detoxification to successfully manage nicotine and other substance abuses.

How does this work?

The Luminex medical grade class IIIB laser treatment uses laser therapy with a device to focus the beam to that of a slightly larger than a pinpoint to utilize the many acupuncture points on the patient's ear. There are over seventy points on the ear which are used in auricular or ear acupuncture. There are several points which are used on every patient and there may be an additional point added for a specific need of the patient.

What happens to the patient and does it hurt?

The laser doctor uses a cold laser beam and focuses on organ points on the ear. There is not a needle involved and the skin is not penetrated by an instrument. These auricular acupuncture points include the zero point, brain, mouth, spleen, lung, large intestine, and kidney. The nicotine point on the hand should also be treated, along with a point on the bottom of the foot related to the kidney (K1).

How does this laser therapy work?

The laser may cause the body to release endorphins and neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters and endorphins can calm and relax the body to reduce nicotine craving and withdrawal symptoms. This laser therapy can reduce sleeping disorders which may arise for some patients dealing with smoking cessation.

Is there anything else that must be done for this to work?

There should be foot ionizing detoxification or far infrared sauna used at least three times during the first month that smoking is stopped. There may also be an herbal Chinese patent medicine or single herb used along with the laser therapy and detoxification to increase the likelihood of success. The patient will require at least four to six laser treatments.

Hair Laser Removal Tips

Everyone has once suffered from unwanted hair. What are the choices to remove it? Queer hair-removal creams, painful hot wax or unsafe sharp razors? Have you ever considered laser hair removal as the ultimate solution? Many laser hair removal centers offer this fast, less painful treatment delivering long-lasting results. However, any company is good at advertising itself and will rarely tell you, if their treatment fits you. They will definitely show you lots of "before and after" photographs of the best results. Be sure they are not a fake.

Do you know that the results depend on the method, and there are at least four different practices, such as Diode Laser, Nd: Yag Laser, Alexandrite Laser, Ruby Laser. Your physician must be experienced in every method since he has to choose the right one for your skin and hair. He must decide if you are a candidate for treatment because laser hair removal is not good for everyone. It is required that a patient's hair be darker than the surrounding skin. Having too dark skin, you should use highly specialized lasers. Usual laser is not a remedy either for tanned patients having light hair or tanned ones having dark hair. Your physician must identify your type of skin and hair and have enough expertise in treating patients with the same skin and hair type.

Moreover, you should discuss with your physician possible side effects such as swelling, redness, burning, hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation, and your pain threshold. No matter how painless and harmless laser treatment is supposed to be, it works by emitting a beam of light that is absorbed by the hair follicles directly below your outer layer of skin.

How can you find the right hair removal center? You can call any company from Yellow Pages, learn about one from TV commercial, or spend a bit more time surfing the internet for reviews of real patients. The website reviewportal.org Reviews and comments offers you tools to find comments on a hair happinesslifetime.com laser removal center in your city or to share your experience of going to such a center. Keep in mind, laser hair removal must be individualized for each patient and requires accuracy, individual approach, expertise and knowledge. Be sure to find the right hair happinesslifetime.com laser removal center for you.

Skin Type 1-6? You Should Know Before You Go Laser

So... you've finally decided that the hair on your chin or down the side of your face has to go! You've selected a medical spa that you feel comfortable using and determined what hair needs to be removed. Great! Ummm... Do you know what your skin type is? Do you know about the Fitzpatrick Typing? No... Well, here's some information I think is going to help.

The Fitzpatrick Skin Type was developed by Dr. Thomas B. Fitzpatrick of Harvard medical school in 1975. What he found was that most people, when exposed to the sun, seemed to fall into 1 of 6 different areas. Below are the results he found:

1. I: This first category is highly sensitive to the sun, seems to always burn and it never tans. Most people that fall into this category have pale white skin Eye and hair color seems to be an indicator as well. Those with red or blond hair and blue/hazel eyes usually are of type I. Also, people with numerous freckles or are albino are in this classification.

2. II: This category of people is very sensitive to the sun and will easily burn. There is very little if any tanning when people in this classification have been exposed to the sun. Most people with fair skin and blue eyes would be characterized as having this Fitzpatrick type.

3. III: People being a darker shade of white would be classified into this Third (III) Area. Those in this category are usually sensitive to the sun. They will sometimes burn when they are exposed to the sun. There is some tanning involved but it's usually a slow tan and become a light brown. Examples of this would be people of European mix and darker Caucasians.

4. IV: Skin of this type will encompass a large part of our population. People with who fall into this classification are usually a light brown. They are minimally sensitive to the sun and usually have minimal sun burning. These people will tan to a medium brown. Most people that are classified as type IV have light brown skin. This is a very large group of people and part of one of these heritages: American Indian, Hispanic, Mediterranean, Asian or European. Like I said this is a very large part of our population!

5. V: Brown skin... The people in this group usually are not sensitive to the sun and they will very rarely get sun burns. They will also tan very well to a medium or dark brown. Most people that are in this group are Hispanic, Middle Eastern or Afro-American.

6. VI: The last but not the least is the skin type that is not sensitive to the sun at all and it never sun burns. These people have a very dark pigmentation and are usually from Afro-American, Middle Eastern or African heritage.

Why is this important? Because of the laser used and how much energy is applied. This will affect how the treatments go and what effect the laser may have on you. Make sure the technician has given you the Fitzpatrick Questionnaire so you are paired with the correct laser treatment. Remember; always ask questions of your practitioner so you feel comfortable with their expertise!

The Benefits of Laser Tattoo Removal

Have you ever done something that you had a bit of an inkling that you would regret later on? The old adage is true, "Everyone makes mistakes." However, some people have a tendency to make bigger mistakes than others. That certainly becomes true when they, for example, decide to get body art with the name of their significant-other-at-the-moment on it.

Thankfully, these people can escape their embarrassment by getting laser tattoo removal. In "the old days" those who made this ridiculous mistake would not have any other option than to just try to either cover it with something else, or come up with a very good explanation as to why it was ever there in the first place.

Laser tattoo removal, as its name implies, uses laser technology to erase the ink that was injected into the upper epidermal layers in order to create the tattoo. Specifically, during a laser tattoo removal procedure, the lasers are meant to stimulate the production of new skin tissue, while at the same time obliterating the old tissue that had the tattoo ink in it.

Laser tattoo removal is not done is just one session. Rather it is done in several sessions of the period of some weeks or months. While some people might be very impatient about trying to get this sort of thing done, it is actually to the benefit of the patient. After all, if the procedure was done too quickly, it could lead to scarring and other skin problems. Thus, this procedure is both a beneficial and a safe way to get rid of unwanted tattoos.

Laser Acne Treatment

It is estimated that 22 million adults and teens suffer from acne, but some cases don't respond well to many of today's medications. Acne treatments continue to advance, but for many, the emotional devastation caused by acne requires a more immediate solution. happinesslifetime.com Laser acne treatment, a newer therapy in the treatment of acne, has shown promise in treating the most severe cases of adult and pubescent acne.

The smooth beam laser was approved by the FDA to treat acne in 2002. Since then it has become one of the most effective treatments for severe and recurrent cases of acne.

First, a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the patient's face, or other affected area. Since acne prone skin is usually very sensitive anyway, this precautionary step relieves most of the discomfort that the patient may feel during and right after the procedure. Next, a smooth, low level laser beam is used on the area to be treated, heating the sebaceous glands under the skin. The pulsating heat slows the gland's production of oil, eliminating most of the cause of acne. The laser also kills bacteria, the other component of acne.

Most see an improvement after the first treatment, but three to four once a month sessions are needed to complete the treatment. Most patients experience a 95% reduction in pimples and lesions. Side effects are mild, with the most severe being swelling of the treated area. Since the treatments are gentle and quick, some patients even schedule them during lunch hours and breaks. There is no recovery time and very little discomfort. Most patients experience some redness and irritation.

What's the downside? Most insurance programs don't cover laser treatments for acne yet. However, if you or a loved one is suffering the emotional consequences of severe acne, you know that the cost of the treatments is well worth it!

Laser Toner Spills and Cleaning Up - Facts You Need to Know

Toner is the powder used in laser printers and photocopiers to form the printed text and graphics on paper. It is carbon powder combined with polymer, melted by the heat of the printer's fuser, which binds the mixture onto paper.

In older printer models, toner powder was poured into receptacles in the machine. Refilling was quite a tedious and messy process until laser toner cartridges were introduced along with the newer and more compact laser printers. Thanks to these brilliant inventions, replenishing printers with toner supply has become a cinch. Slip-ups can still happen, though; a bad quality cartridge could leak or break open and leave you and your printer in a bind. Here are some facts you might need to know about cleaning up toner powder.

1. NEVER wash toner powder off with warm, much less hot water. Warm or hot water will cause the toner powder to melt and will therefore bind it to skin or clothing even more.

2. Toner that has fused to skin will fade away over several washings. Abrasive cleaner and cold water can help speed up the removal of toner bound to skin.

3. Remember not to wash toner-stained clothing in warm or hot water. Toner powder that has melted into clothing can never be washed off and will stain permanently. Unfused toner easily washes off from most washable clothing; rule of thumb is to never let the toner get into contact with any source of heat as it is a type of wax with a very low melting point. If garment will be machine-washed, do so in two cycles and remember to use cold water, especially during the first cycle. Use a milder soap like (hand) dishwashing liquid on the first cycle, then a regular laundry detergent for the second. Toner residue is almost certain to remain in the rinse water of the first cycle and this may cause permanent graying. Avoid using the clothes dryer or ironing until toner has been totally removed from the garment.

4. Toner spills on furniture and other surfaces must only be wiped off with a cold, damp cloth. Never use an ordinary household vacuum cleaner to clean up toner as it has electrostatic properties and can ignite when rubbed against other particles. Also, toner particles are very, very fine that vacuum cleaner bags may not be able to filter them or prevent the powder from blowing through back into the room.

5. If toner spills onto the printer, remember to use an ESD-safe (Electrostatic Discharge-safe) toner vacuum. For larger spills on any other surface that will require you to use a vacuum cleaner, remember to use one that is equipped with an electrically conductive hose and a high efficiency (HEPA) filter for effective cleaning.

Laser printing has become an easy and cost-effective procedure thanks to continuous product development efforts. Spills and similar toner accidents can easily be prevented by purchasing toner cartridges from reputable suppliers. Choose your laser toner cartridge provider with caution to keep your laser printing experience pleasant and worry-free. What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is becoming more and more popular as the technology advances. We've all seen the billboards and ads suggesting that with a few short treatments you'll never have to shave again. But how does this process work and what are the long term effects?

This procedure actually works on a fairly simple concept. An intense beam of light is targeted to the melanin in dark hair. The absorbed heat then kills the hair at the root and shortly thereafter the hair is ejected from the follicle. Due to this process, the best candidates for laser hair removal are people with light skin and dark hair. Light colored hair, such as blond or gray, does not have enough melanin to absorb the laser and dark skin has too much melanin. The melanin in darker skin may absorb too much of the laser light and result in burns. Therefore, it is important to avoid any sunbathing for a few weeks before your treatment.

Hair grows in different phases, with different parts being dormant at different times. Due to this, not all of your hairs can be targeted in one treatment. On average people will need around 5-8 treatments to see the results they want. Some centers will charge a set amount per treatment while others will offer package rates for the treatment of a specific area.

Laser hair removal is classified by the FDA as permanent hair reduction. This means that you probably won't be completely hairless after treatment, but will instead see a severe reduction in the number of hairs present, frequently around 90%. Over time some of these hairs may regrow, requiring touch ups. Many people will go in for a yearly touch up to their laser hair removal in order to maintain the results.

Laser Hair Removal Side Effects: What's Bad and What's Worse

Laser hair removal is becoming more prevalent each day as more and more people opt for this method of removing unwanted hair. However, it requires careful consideration as it is still a medical procedure with all the inherent risks of any other medical procedure.

Fortunately, the side effects from laser hair removal are usually mild and short lived. While serious side effects are still possible, they are very rare. Let's take a look at what laser hair removal side effects you should expect and what to look for.

Common Side Effects:

Pain is the most talked about side affect when talking about laser hair removal. The laser light produces a short 'zap' when applied that feels similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin. The pain is easily bearable as it is very short in duration.

Some people with sensitive skin may experience more discomfort. Topical anesthetics are available to help minimize this pain if needed. The area to be treated may also see some tenderness after the procedure. Any follow-on discomfort can be adequately served with pain relievers such as Tylenol, topical anesthetics or a simple application of aloe vera cream.

Swelling is sometimes apparent after the procedure. It can be treated similar to the pain treatments above. You should tale to your practitioner if the swelling is serious or persists. This will help address the situation as quickly as possible and also help dictate in changes in the treatment regimen for next time.

Redness around the treated area is the most common and least harmful side effect.

It will usually clear up by itself after a few hours but aloe vera cream can be used here as well to help alleviate and discomfort.

Rare or Serious Side Effects:

Blistering of the skin is probably the most serious side effect other than outright burning of the skin. It can be very painful and lead to scaring if not properly treated. It is most often caused by improper settings on the laser. You should talk to your practitioner immediately if any blistering occurs. Changes will need to be made before the next treatment.

Do not hesitate to call another doctor if the blistering is particularly bad or painful. Many laser clinics are not staffed with licensed doctors and are not properly equipped to handle serious complications.

Hyperpigmentation is the temporary darkening of the skin. This will usually clear up after a day or two but if it persists, you should talk to your practitioner and make any necessary adjustments to treatment.

Burning of the skin is the most serious complication. The cause is similar to blistering in that the laser setting are wrong for the patient. If you feel burning you should stop the procedure immediately to prevent any serious damage and have a long, long talk with your practitioner. Burning should never happen!

Fortunately, most laser hair removal side effects are mild and short lived. Keep in mind that your laser specialist is the best person to assess as to how many sessions you'll most likely need. Remember too, that treatments vary for each individual and would generally depend on your skin color, skin type as well as your hair growth. This is why it is best to consult with specialist before you begin with your laser hair removal treatments.

Laser Hair Removal: Possible Risks and Noted Side Effects

It is generally, unsightly to see women grow so much hair on exposed areas of the body like the arms, legs, underarms and the bikini area where some, protruding pubic hair can be seen. Most men perceive it as an ultimate turn-off and some would question hygiene and personal cleanliness. This is why laser hair removal and treatment is such a hit among women of all ages.

What started more than thirty years ago as a simple procedure to remove hideous and unwanted hairs with the use of intense pulse light and xenon flash lamps that releases spectrum light became a revolutionary process in the 1990s. Laser and light- based methods have taken the place of intense pulse light, which is now, most widely known as laser hair removal. With this, derma clinics and dermatology centers offer laser hair removal with varying costs depending on the need of the client, their hair volume and growth direction as well as the area of the body to which there is uneven hair growth.

Aside from purely being clean- looking and hygienic, women have to consider if indeed, laser hair removal is the perfect option to get rid of stubborn and ugly hair. The price of the procedure is really something to ponder and prepare for. From a "not-at-all" cheap cost of $250 for underarm treatment, it can reach to a pricey tag of $850 for the legs. Now, that is what looking good costs nowadays!

Apart from the cleanliness and beauty aspect that is in the front row, various factors need to be considered that is, most importantly the risk of the possible effects that go with laser hair removal. No medical procedure poses a hazard-free method. Apparently, there are risks involved and side- effects that can be temporary and may be detrimentally permanent.

Laser hair removal side- effects are normal and temporary which usually includes redness on the affected area, discomfort and slight pain, certain swelling and itchiness, even numbness and a certain stinging sensation occurs. For those with darker skin, there may be possible formation of blisters. The results after treatment do not last long and should not persist more than three days.

The risks and plausible permanent outcome that may prove damaging in the long- run are burnt skin or discoloration and opposite to it is having white spots or hypopigmentation. Scaring can be possible when there is overexposure to the laser. Allergies and infection may also crop up. These unwanted side- effects, whether temporary or permanent, should be carefully scrutinized before making the final decision to go through hair happinesslifetime.com laser removal. However, all these can be reduced by asking a reliable medical expert with a proven track-record and comply with pre and post requirements for a much safer and successful procedure.

Rejuvi VS Laser Tattoo Removal

Rejuvi tattoo Removal is as much an art form as tattooing itself and not all technicians will have the same results. The Rejuvi works only as well as the technician that administers the treatment and the tools she or he uses as well as the technique that is used. For this reason, finding the right technician is crucial to the final result. Rejuvi can be a better alternative to laser for various reasons.

- Less treatments are needed

- Takes out all colours

- Far less expensive than laser

- Will not leave you susceptible to skin cancer

Lets start with the tools. Rejuvi is often administered by tattoo artist with tattooing machines. Conventional tattoo machines should be avoided as these can be too rough on the skin. Cheap micro pigmentation machines should also be avoided. Just about the only suitable machine on the market for this procedure is the Precision Plus Micro Pigmentation machine. The problem is that this piece of equipment costs as much as a car and the components (needles) are also expensive so most technicians will not even consider it. However, if you don't want to be left with a scar, you want to make sure that the best tools are used on your skin. It's worth paying a bit more for your treatment knowing that the equipment being used on you is the best on the market.

The way the treatment is administered is also key to success, but remember that success means two things, the tattoo coming off and no scar being left. On this note, lets get one thing straight....what ever method you use, your skin will never return to pre tattoo condition. But Rejuvi, if done correctly, will leave you with little more than a very unnoticeable shadow. Please understand that this procedure does leave an open wound, and if the scab that is left after the treatment is prematurely pulled off, you have a high chance of scaring. Therefore after care is key to not being left with a scar. There are also genetic reason for scaring, African, Afro Caribbean or Asian backgrounds are highly likely to keloid. For this reason, most technicians will not work on anyone from this background. I do only in exceptional circumstances where people would prefer to have a scar than a tattoo and sign forms to that effect. Scar can be minimized using MCA or Skin Needling but that requires and entirely different post tattoo removal treatment.

For those that have tried the treatment and complain they have seen no results.....well....this is quite common with the first session. The first treatment is done very gently....the reason is that you do not know how that particular person is going to react to the Rejuvi and more importantly how that person is going to heal. If results are not achieved the first time around but healing was quick, a more aggressive the second treatment should be done which generally gets very good results. It's best to do this than have the tattoo come off in one treatment and leave a horrible scar behind.

Rejuvi does require anywhere from 5 to 9 treatments, so it is a slow process although some results can usually be seen from the first treatment unless the tattoo has been lasered....if this is the case, you will need on average a further 3 treatments.

Rejuvi does work and it's and can be a far better alternative to laser. But do your research, not all technicians are equal and your treatment will only be as good as the person that administers it!

Anatomy of the Skin - The Basis for Understanding Aging Lines and Wrinkles

The epidermis is the most superficial layer of the skin and provides the first barrier or protection from the invasion of foreign substances into the body. The principle cell of the epidermis is called a keratinocyte. The epidermis is subdivided into five layers or strata, the stratum germinativum (SG), the stratum spinosum (SS), the stratum granulosum (SGR), the stratum lucidum (not seen in this photomicrograph) and the stratum corneum (SC) in which a keratinocye gradually migates to the surface and is sloughed off in a process called desquamation.

The condition of the epidermis determines how "fresh" your skin looks and also how well your skin absorbs and holds moisture. Spots, pores, evenness, porphyrins, and UV spots all manifest themselves in our epidermis.

Wrinkles, however, are formed from changes in the dermis.

The dermis assumes the important functions of thermoregulation and supports the vascular network to supply the avascular epidermis with nutrients. The dermis is typically subdivided into two zones, a papillary layer and a reticular layer. The dermis contains mostly fibroblasts which are responsible for secreting collagen, elastin and ground substance that give the support and elasticity of the skin. Also present are immune cells that are involved in defense against foreign invaders passing through the epidermis.

The papillary dermis (PD) contains vascular networks that have two important functions. The first being to support the avascular epidermis with vital nutrients and secondly to provide a network for thermoregulation. The vasculature is organized so that by increasing or decreasing blood flow, heat can either be conserved or dissipated. The vasculature interdigitates in areas called dermal papillae (DP). The papillary dermis also contains the free sensory nerve endings and structures called Meissner's corpuscles in highly sensitive areas.

The reticular layer of the dermis (RD) consists of dense irregular connective tissue, this differs from the papillary layer, which is made up of mainly loose connective tissue (note the difference in the number of cells). The reticular layer of the dermis is important in giving the skin its overall strength and elasticity, as well as housing other important epithelial derived structures such as glands and hair follicles. This reticular layer is our target for collagen production.

Collagen

Collagen is a member of the connective tissues: cartilage, bone, tendons, fascia, ligaments, and blood vessels. The character of any connective tissue is determined by the function of the specific cells that compromise that tissue. The major fibrous proteins are collagen and elastin. The predominant nonfibrous components are the complex carbohydrates mainly: hyaluronic acid, the proteoglycans, and glycoproteins. Collagens are a class of proteins, members of which have chemical and structural features in common, but each is a product of a specific gene (hence, the specific connective tissue disorders). One property of all collagen molecules is the unique triple helix, a particular conformation of the three component polypeptide (alpha) chains, each containing approximately 1000 amino acids. The conformation of the chains is determined by the amino acid content, with glycine constituting a third of the total and occurring at every third position in the amino acid sequence. There are two major classes of collagen: interstitial and pericellular. Interstitial collagens are the major collagen of the skin and essentially exclusive type of bone (type I); articular cartilage and nucleus pulposus (type II); and the collagen present in the skin, blood vessel walls, and the matrix of parenchymal organs (type III). Pericellular collagens are types of IV and V and predominate in basement membranes.

Biosynthesis

Biosynthesis of the collagen chains is a multistep process in which a precursor form (procollagen) is first synthesized, with peptide extensions at either end. During synthesis, several amino acids are uniquely modified post-translationally (after incorporation into the polypeptide chains). These post-translational modifications include hydrozylation of praline residues (hydroxyproline) and lysine residues (hydroxylysine) and addition of sugars (glucose and galactose) to the hydroxylysines, and formation of the hydroxylysing and lysine aldehydes. Specific proteases act to cleave off the extensions of the procollagens to produce the processed collagen molecules, which can then polymerize to form fibrils and fibers. Our lasers target the cell mediators which stimulate the production of procollagen I & III.

Aging

Cutaneous (skin) aging is a complex biological phenomenon. Disorders in aged skin are more the result of photoaging (UVR) than from chronological aging. There is gradual atrophy of the dermis and epidermis and a massive accumulation of abnormal elastic tissue with its associated microfibrils and proteoglycans. These elements replace the normal collagen rich dermal foundation, leading to a weakened and thinner dermal layer. UVR consists of UVA (320-400nm) + UVB (280-320nm) and UVC which at the present time does not penetrate our atmosphere. UVA light is the prime offending agent for collagen loss and subsequent wrinkles. UVB's shorter wavelength only affects the epidermis. As the dermal layer "sags" so then follows the epidermis, and wrinkles appear. This decrease in collagen results more from increased deterioration (UVA) rather than from a significant decrease in production (age). The term solar elastosis is used to describe photodamaged skin.

The thickness of the skin changes with age: young skin gradually gets thicker until the age of about 20 years, after which there is a gradual atrophy of the dermis. At the level of the papillary dermis, a relatively nonechogenic band appears and develops with age. The exact reasons for the appearance of this shadow are unknown, but it corresponds to a homogenization of the papillary dermis, the local disappearance of elastic and collagen fibers, and their replacement with an undifferentiated matrix of hydrated gycosaminoglycans (elastotic tissue). The extent of this shadow steadily increases with age and is a reliable marker for skin aging (loss of collagen density).

This shadow is found in both types of happinesslifetime.com aging skin: photo and chronological. An increase in dermal thickness from laser therapy is found in the upper dermis and is due to an increase in the collagen fibers and not the other components of the matrix.

The laser heat causes a partial denaturation of the older collagen and accelerates the new collagen synthesis process by the fibroblasts and the deposition of new glycosominoglycans and leads to a reabsorption of elastotic material. An increase in the echogenic band in the upper dermis is easily visualized with ultrasound and is directly attributable to an increase in collagen. Two possible benefits occur with laser collagen remodeling therapy. The thickness of the dermis increases and/or the density of the collagen increases.

Anti-Aging

Anti-aging modalities are classified by type:

Type I therapy is directed at the epidermis (microdermabrasion/chemical peels/laser)

Type II therapy is directed at the dermis (laser/chemical peels/ultrasound)

Type III therapy is surgical or injectable (face Lift, botox, fillers).

How to Remove Skin Moles Naturally at Home - Best Mole and Wart Removal Tips

If you are one with an ugly mole or wart on your face, this question will surely haunt you from time to time. But before you consider your options for the removal of moles and warts from your skin, you must have some basic ideas about their nature. Or else, it can be hazardous for you.

What are warts? Warts are actually benign skin growths caused by a viral infection. Majority of them are harmless. The viruses that cause warts are known as papilloma virus (HPV). Warts can be dark, flat, smooth, rough and even elevated. There are several types of warts: 1) Common warts.2) Plantar warts 3) Flat warts 4) Facial warts.

What are moles? Moles appear due to hyper-pigmentation of the skin and are usually brown, or near black in color. They can be round, flat or raised and can be of various sizes. Moles can appear anywhere on your skin, alone, or in groups, but they are not as ugly-looking as warts.

How to remove moles and warts permanently? Moles are generally regarded as harmless growths, but they sometimes can turn into malignant melanoma. This kind of moles can give rise to skin cancer. Needless to say, if they are not removed in time, they can be fatal. Moles and warts can be removed by general surgery. But only a qualified dermatologist or a surgeon can do it. The mole or wart is removed with a scalpel, usually by shaving it off, or by incision. The wound is then left to heal while you are put on a heavy dose of antibiotics.

Lase removal is another option to get rid of moles and warts. Most patients do not require any anesthetics. The laser works by sealing the blood vessels and evaporating the tiny growths on the skin. This eliminates incision or bloodshed. After laser surgery, a scab is formed where the mole or wart existed previously and it will fall off gradually within a couple of weeks. A slight redness will occur but it will disappear slowly. Laser treatment, however, is expensive and requires several sittings with the specialist till the unwanted mole or wart gets removed from the skin completely.

If, however, you are someone who feels rather reluctant to go for general or laser surgery for the removal of moles and warts, there is a third option, which is by far the best option to remove skin moles naturally at home. You can learn more about it from: Hubpages.com/hub/How-to-get-rid-of-moles-naturally Get rid of moles

Laser Skin Treatment Removes Acne Scars

Acne can be devastating at any age, but far worse than the condition itself is the scarring left behind. While the pimples and infections will eventually go away and can be treated, many teens are left with the reminders on their faces in the form of unpleasant scars. Fortunately, they don't have to live with them forever.

With laser skin treatment, acne scars are treatable. This process is also referred to as laser skin resurfacing and it can make all the difference in a person suffering from acne or another skin issue.

How It Works

The advancements in laser technology have made it possible to use this treatment to resurface the skin and not only remove acne scars, but also to treat the active cases. After a laser skin treatment, acne is greatly reduced and may even be eliminated after several procedures.

When the laser is focused on areas of the skin, it burns away the top layer and penetrates the skin to stimulate cell growth. This has the effect of producing an entirely new layer of skin, fresh and unscathed. Since this is a rather delicate procedure, it's important that only a trained professional perform it.

What to Expect

This technique works very well on fair skinned people, but requires a little more finesse on those with darker skin, since the laser could cause loss of pigmentation or color. It can be used on a variety of scars caused by pimples and infections. These might include irregular skin, pitting or even raised areas of scar tissue, depending on how the infection was treated.

Before treatment, you'll be briefed on what is going to happen. Your eyes will need to be protected, so the spa professional will cover them. This just ensures that there will be no accidental exposure, though the laser will not be used near your eyes.

The procedure can be slightly painful, so often a topical anesthetic is applied to help with that. Any discomfort after the treatment can be relieved with Tylenol. Depending on the type of laser used, you may have some recovery time and require multiple sessions. The least invasive laser treatment, Fraxel, is virtually painless, non-invasive and requires several treatments in order to achieve good results. For this reason, some people prefer the stronger CO2 laser.

Resurfacing the entire face can take up to 2 hours, but most people only need a partial treatment for specific areas which takes far less time. If you opt for the strongest and most invasive treatments, you could end up with a few weeks of recovery ahead of you. However, at the end of it, you'll have smooth, much improved skin.

Not Just For Acne

As an anti-aging treatment, lasers are quite successful. They can also be used to reduce or even remove (with multiple treatments) hair in areas where it is unwanted.

Laser skin treatments can be found at spas that offer more technologically advanced techniques. A properly equipped spa will be able to treat acne and other skin problems without issue, though.

As this thefacialplace.com Pickering acne treatment becomes more common, you'll find that more and more spas offer this option. The popularity also brings the price down, making this a procedure that nearly anyone can afford.

What the Future Holds For Skin Treatment

happinesslifetime.com Skin care is a multi-million pound industry. Over the counter sales for skin treatment and happinesslifetime.com skin care products is at an all-time high. But predictions forecast a change in this trend over the coming years, as more informed consumers look towards specialist treatments available from clinics, rather than a pot of cream from their pharmacist.

As the public gains a better understanding of the true nature of happinesslifetime.com skin care, experts predict that the lotions and potions that have been relied upon for generations to condition the skin and fight the signs of ageing will decline dramatically in popularity. Experts argue that the public are becoming disillusioned with happinesslifetime.com skin care products that make claims to help their customers look younger, but don't actually deliver the results. A £600million pound industry is facing crisis.

But out of all this, it's the specialist skin clinics that are predicting a far brighter future and look set to benefit from a public that no longer believes the hype of the skin cream manufacturers. The development of clinical treatments means that happinesslifetime.com skin care specialists now know far more about how the largest organ in the body works, and are able to use technology to penetrate the underlying structure of the skin and make a difference at a molecular level. Clinics will also be able to provide customers with skin treatment that works far more effectively than over the counter creams because of a higher concentration of known active ingredients such as pentapeptides and Vitamin A - both proven to improve the appearance of skin. Over the next 10 years, ongoing research will reveal far more about stimulating the triggers for elastin and collagen production, giving the public access to far more effective skin treatments than in previous years.

The other product causing interest in dermatology is peptides. Peptides aren't new - they've been known about for some years now. But the research being carried out into these building blocks for skin regeneration is pushing the boundaries of dermatological research further than ever before. Scientific proof exists that peptides actively stimulate skin regeneration, helping anti-ageing and the overall condition of skin that has been damaged by conditions such as acne and psoriasis.

In addition to non-invasive techniques offered by skin clinics, more technologically advanced procedures such as laser treatment, face-lifts, eyelid surgery and even botox see no signs of loosing their popularity. The public is willing to spend more on looking good, with a 35% increase in the number of cosmetic surgical procedures undertaken in the UK in 2005. This growth appears to reflect a growing acceptance of aesthetic surgery amongst the population, fuelled by a growing obsession with fighting back the signs of ageing and a celebrity culture that promotes the appearance of youth as a symbol of beauty.

Since its launch three years ago, one particular product has gained a growing fan base both in the UK and the US. Isologen uses the body's own skin cells, harvested by hand, to rejuvenate the skin. Although it currently commands a high price tag, it is gaining in popularity as a more 'natural' method of skin conditioning, crossing the boundary between 'natural cosmetics' and surgery.

The trend is now to get good results - and fast. A more financially independent clientele is favouring sknclinics.co.uk skin treatments such as glycolic peels and microdermabrasion. While home treatment packages are available from many of the major beauty companies, many customers are still preferring to seek out professional advice from skin clinics before deciding which of the plethora of new treatments available is right for them. Skin clinics are predicting a surge in interest for in-clinic treatments over the coming years. It looks like the days of a bathroom cabinet groaning with pots and tubes of skincare products could be coming to an end.

Rejuvenate Sun Damaged Skin with Microdermabrasion

Skin resurfacing techniques

Regular dermabrasion is for removing more major disfigurations, such as deep scarring or wrinkling, benign tumors, and superficial skin cancers. It works on a deeper level of the skin than does microdermabrasion.

Other skin resurfacing techniques are chemical peels and laser resurfacing.

All these procedures in some way work on the skin surface, but at different depths. They all resurface to improve the skin quality, by reducing age spots, for example, by softening light wrinkles, or reducing scars. The choice of which method to use depends on how deeply work will have to be done to achieve the person's goals.

What is sun damage?

Sunlight is deceptive. It feels warm and benign, and gives us a "healthy" tan. But silently over the years, it hurts the skin. It causes wrinkles, blotchy discoloration, roughness, susceptibility to bruising, abnormal blood vessels and to cap it all off, can lead to skin cancer.

Age damages our skin too, making it drier, thinner, and more easily bruised. But age alone doesn't much affect the job performance of our skin. Sunlight does. It contains ultraviolet light, radiation.

How does microdermabrasion work?

First, goggles are placed on your eyes for protection, and your skin is cleaned. Then using a hand-held the skin is gently abraded. The device uses a high-pressure flow of tiny crystals, and uses suction to recycle them and dispose of the detached tissue.

By thus removing that top layer of dead cells and the ones moving upwards behind them, it stimulates the lowest layer of the epidermis to produce more new cells.

It works well to reduce fine wrinkles, acne scars, crow's feet, and age spots. It corrects uneven pigmentation, skin roughness, whiteheads, and blackheads. It is a great way to treat active acne.

Typically a treatment regimen is set up, with four to six sessions, spaced a week apart.

Advantages of microdermabrasion

· It requires no anesthesia

· It's painless

· It's quick and easy to perform (a quarter hour to one hour)

· It can be repeated at short intervals for maximum benefit

· It works for all skin types

· There's no recovery time required

Because of all this, it also does not interrupt your life much. You walk away from it with a healthy fresh glow on your skin. It's usually done on the face and neck, but can also be done on other areas, such as the hands.

Disadvantages of microdermabrasion

· It requires several treatments to get good effect

· It's ineffective on deep scars and wrinkles

Preventing sun damage is the best way to go. Use sunscreen, wear a hat, drink lots of water and you'll be protected.

Finding a good cosmetic surgeon

Since cosmetic surgery has become so popular in the last 10 years or so, some doctors have taken short cut training to take advantage of this at a disservice to the general public. You want a properly trained and experienced surgeon, not one who might gain his basic experience on you! Choose a plastic surgeon who's certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), and one who's a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

While you should by all means listen to your friends and acquaintances who may have had cosmetic surgery and want to recommend their doctor to you you should do your homework too, and check the doctor's credentials.

Some questions to ask when interviewing plastic surgeons

· Do you have hospital privileges, and if so, which hospitals?

· Can you do the procedure in the hospital if I want to?

· If you do surgery in other facilities, are they accredited?

· How many breast reductions have you done?

· Can I speak to some of your previous patients about their experience with it?

Tattoo Laser Removal Really Works - Is There a Safer Way?

Complete tattoo removal has not been a realistic option for many years. However, due to technological advances, complete tattoo removal has become possible. Factors to take into consideration when deciding whether or not to go forth with the procedure include, how the tattoo was applied, location and size of the tattoo, duration tattoo has existed, and your ability to recover and heal. Needless to say, it is much easier to remove a small tattoo rather than one that covers your whole back. Tattoos that you have had for over 10 years is much easier to remove than ones you just received.

There is an endless array of reasons why you got a tattoo including curiosity, love of art, or even peer pressure. Similarly, there are many reasons why you may want your tattoo removed. Perhaps you regret even getting one, your job prohibits it, or just to have an ex-lover's name removed.

happinesslifetime.com Laser removal is the best option for tattoo removal known today. The most common types of tattoo happinesslifetime.com laser removal used are the Q- switched Ruby, Q- switched Alexandrite, Q- switched Nd: YAG and the Q- switched Frequency. A local anesthetic is applied on the skin and on the tattoo. Then pulses are sent from the wavelength of the laser to the skin to breakdown the ink pigments into smaller particles that will soon be absorbed by your immune system. This procedure will cost a pretty penny however. In addition, the procedure usually requires anywhere from eight to twelve sessions. Laser tattoo removal will leave less scars and marks on the skin. Though tattoo happinesslifetime.com laser removal is painful, your physician will help decrease the discomfort.

The entire tattoo may be removed with several trips to the clinic at high costs and some treatments may give you scars and leave traces of ink pigments behind. It is important to discuss the positive and negative aspects of any removal method.

If you are looking for a less painful method for tattoo ink removal, try a tattoo fading cream. Tattoo fade creams are cheaper and do not cause pain. Another advantage of using tattoo fade creams is that it does not damage the skin, as long as they do not contain harmful ingredients. Ingredients that should be included in your fading cream include kojic acid, alpha-arbutin, and aquatic algae, as these ingredients are skin lightening, draw tattoo ink off the skin and are all-natural. You should avoid creams that contain tricyclic acid (TCA), hydroquinone and baking soda. These ingredients harm your skin and may cause abrasions and make tattoos worse.

If you are looking at less expensive options you are left with chemicals and creams. I could not find a chemical that was approved by FDA and just because of the nature of these products I would not recommend that you try them unless directed by a physician. It is difficult to find which fading cream works best for your skin type and buying different types may add up. It is advised that you consult an expert on tattoo removal such as a physician and use only one cream at a time to see if you have any adverse reactions.

It has a unique, effective tattoo fade-removal system that is unlike anything ever seen. Please visit tattooremovalathome.blogspot.com tattooremovalathome.blogspot.com to find out more.

How Effective Is Laser Hair Removal?

It's awkward to seek out someone in this world that actually likes to waste 30 minutes or more trying to remove the hair from the legs, face, armpits, and a couple of your more susceptible areas. Hair removal is not a nice-looking thing - but it's essential in order to help keep ourselves looking clean and not akin to a bunch of people who exist in caves.

The simplest way is always to shave and some might even place themselves through the torture of waxing. For those who are able to stand the pain and the time that it takes than select it. However, we recommend you do what a lot of others are doing. Inspect what it requires in order to get laser hair removal and find out how effective it may be to add to the routine.

Over the years technology is becoming more advanced. This used to be just for folks who had light skin and dark hair. Now though you will discover different types of lasers which are being employed to assist those individuals with dark skin and light hair without any harmful unintended effects to have to worry about.

When you have light hair you will find that using this method is great at doing away with the hair from the less important regions. Unfortunately it is fairly tricky for the machine to find the hair follicle which means you will need more treatments than people who have dark hair. Still it is easier to take away the hair from the armpits and private areas and a great deal less painful than waxing.

Folks that have dark hair will have the best time because the machine might be capable of spot the hair speedily. You'll still call for more than one session because the hair grows in changeable lengths and at different times. Still it isn't gonna amount to as much so you can focus around the larger areas.

In the event you have thick hair than it can be a whole lot harder for the laser hair removal to get at you and remove it all. In many cases the machine works to prevent the hair from growing back for six months. Nevertheless, with thick hair the time tends to be shorter. That means that you will have to take into account the fact that you need more sessions and you will need them more often. This will be more money.

Why Laser Hair Removal Popularity Is on the Rise

It is common practise that women maintain hair-free skin, because it makes them look and feel more attractive. However, more and more men are opting in on hair removal treatments to provide them with a permanent solution to hair reduction.

There are various different options available for hair removal; the most common for both men and women is to shave with a razor.

Other popular options include a salon waxing; this may be full leg, half leg, full body, face, eyebrows, back and bikini line. Although this is an extremely effective method, the results may last only a couple of weeks.

High street stores also sell home waxing kits that involve wax strips or pots of wax you heat yourself.

There are also many different hair removal creams available on the high street which are simple and easy to use, but may not cater for you if you have sensitive skin. Although temporarily effective, these options do not provide a permanent solution to hair removal. It may not be that these options are convenient any more, or do not fit around a busy lifestyle.

Laser hair removal is becoming an increasingly popular method. Those who feel they have coarse or dark hair, or maybe 'problem areas' in which they want the hair significantly reduced, are seeking laser hair removal to solve their hair problems.

Laser hair removal is a gentle and rapid way of almost permanently removing unwanted hair at an affordable price.

It works by using a laser on the skin that produces pulsed beams of light that are highly concentrated and absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. The laser permanently damages the surrounding follicles stopping most hair from growing back.

How long will it be after the treatment until results begin to show?

At around 3-10 days after treatment it may seem as though the hair is growing back, but most of these hairs are dead, they are shedding and not growing.

The next stage will be at around 14-25 days after sknclinics.co.uk laser hair removal treatment; hairs will gradually fall out and will continue over a period of 6 weeks.

After 6 treatments, 85%-95% of the hairs will have been removed; if hair does grow back it will be significantly reduced.

Where can I have this treatment?

The most common areas for laser hair removal in women are the face, neck, underarms, bikini line, arms, legs and nipples.

However it is not only women that find they have problems with hair, it is becoming increasingly popular for men to seek treatment for this problem.

Men should not be discouraged in seeking treatment, as it has become more and more common for men to want to rid their body of excess hair.

The most common areas in men are the face, neck, back, ears and chest.

There is a pool of pictures widely available through the internet of results of laser hair surgery showing dramatically reduced hair and showing excellent results.

What Are the Side Effects of Laser Scar Treatment?

While laser scar treatment is usually successful, it does have some side effects, like any other medical procedure. You should be aware of them before committing to the procedure. As long as you've chosen a reputable and experienced doctor, your doctor should fully explain them before allowing you to undergo laser scar treatment.

Luckily, laser scar treatment has a very low risk of side effects. These are usually mild and temporary. Here are the possible side effects:

-    Redness and swelling of the treated skin is to be expected. It can be a bit uncomfortable, but the good news is that it should subside within just a few days. Cold gel packs or ice can be used to reduce swelling.

-    Sensitivity to sun is an unavoidable side effect of removing the top layer of skin. Wear SPF30 sun block if the treated area will be exposed to sunlight within a few months of the treatment, although of course sun block is always a good idea.

-    Allergic reactions cannot occur to the laser beam itself, but rarely, a patient has an allergic reaction to the medications or creams used during the procedure. If you have known allergies, ask your doctor about them; substitutions may need to be made to reduce your risk of an allergic reaction.

-    Temporary discoloration- After the procedure, the area treated may become lighter or darker. More aggressive treatment options, such as those used when a scar is particularly raised, may increase your risk of skin discoloration. There is also a higher risk when used on darker skin. After the procedure, always use sun block to prevent exacerbating the condition. Your skin color should return to normal over the course of the next few months.

-    Blisters, burns, or crusting- There is a low risk of these side effects, usually associated with an inexperienced laser operator. If it does occur, use an antibiotic ointment, and avoid picking at the affected area, or it could become infected.

Generally, laser scar treatment is very safe. Many people decide that temporary side effects are worth it to finally get rid of their unsightly scars. To lower your risk of side effects, choose a reputable and experienced doctor with training on the type of laser being used for your procedure. Follow your doctor's post-treatment care instructions carefully. Also consider the increased risk of side effects when choosing to undergo a more aggressive laser treatment plan.
