Why Those With Dark Skin Are Not Ideal For Laser Hair Removal

Unfortunately laser hair removal is not for everyone. Not all people respond the same way to the treatments, and for some, painful side effects may occur. In particular people with darker skin tones are more likely to have difficulty seeing results and may experience reactions that could potentially be permanent.

The reason someone with dark skin should probably avoid laser hair removal is due to the way the treatment works. A small laser is shot into the hair follicle burning and destroying it so it will hopefully stop growing hair. When this works like it's supposed to, there are only very mild side effects such as redness and moderate discomfort during the procedure.

The laser is designed to go after darker pigmentation because in most circumstances the hair is darker than the skin. However, in situations where the patient has a dark skin tone, the laser sometimes can't tell the difference and as a result the skin surrounding the hair follicle can be burnt. When this happens, burning or blistering may occur, which is painful and can lead to permanent scars or discoloring of skin pigmentation.

For this reason those who are considering laser hair removal should seek the advice of a professional before undergoing treatments or performing them at home. There are alternative methods of hair removal that a physician may be able to recommend if they think your skin tone is too dark.

The same is also true for those who have light hair. Anytime there is a low contrast from skin tone to hair color the patient is more at risk for side effects. The ideal characteristics for a laser hair removal patient are light skin with dark, coarse hair follicles. This makes it easy for the laser to differentiate between hair and skin, limiting the chances of burning or scarring.

Acne Treatment - 4 Types of Light and Laser Therapy Treatments Are Discussed

There is a variety of treatment choices available in the market today. The use of laser and light therapy has been popular nowadays. The efficacy of these treatments is still in question because the technology is still young. They have gained preference to people who find it difficult to periodically apply creams on faces to treat acne since conventional acne treatments require time and effort in the application on the affected areas. That is why people have opted to find ways in treating acne that will not cost much of their time and effort. This is where light and laser therapy comes to the picture.

1. Blue-Light

Blue light is the most common light therapy for acne. It has high intensity and narrow bands. It targets to kill 'Propionibacterium Acnes' or the bacteria associated with acne. This is usually the last resort of people in treating their acne. Before, ultraviolet (UV) light was used to treat acne. However, this kind of light was shown to damage the skin and was stopped. Blue light therapy is given in increments. However, there are some side effects like temporary color changes, dryness and inflammation. Many patients that were treated using blue light have shown remarkable improvement.

Blue light is promising because it does not pose grave side effects on the treated skin. Not like the other treatments, blue light does not harm the surrounding tissues.

2. Pulsed Light and Heat Energy (LHE)

Pulses of green light and heat are used to combat acne by killing 'Propionibacterium Acnes' and reducing the size of sebaceous glands to minimize sebum production. This procedure will inhibit the possibility of clogging pores and inviting more bacteria to the site of infection. This therapy hits two birds with one stone since the two causes of acne are targeted.

3. Light and 5 - Aminolevulinic Acid (ALA)

This therapy involves two steps. Initially, the acne is treated with a solution of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA). ALA will make the acne more sensitive to light. Usually, the acne is treated with ALA for short period of time - from 15 - 60 minutes. The time varies on the degree of acne development. After this procedure, the ALA is removed and light is used to expose the acne. The increased sensitivity of the acne to light dries up the acne. Red or blue light is effective but some side-effects have shown. These include swollen follicles resembling acne and mild darkening of the area. Another disadvantage of light therapy is that it promotes skin aging and makes it more vulnerable to skin cancers. However, more research is done on this.

4. Laser Treatments

Laser treatments include 'Diode Laser Treatment' and 'Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment'. There have been studies on the use of these kinds of laser treatments and have shown positive improvement. However, some side effects include mild reddening and swelling of the surrounding tissue makes up for some real concern.

The use of these treatments has not yet been truly established. More research about them should be encouraged to settle the issues of side effects which are either short term or long term. Although these treatments have shown to be more effective on adults, information on the side effects and the best kind of treatment should be evaluated before undergoing laser therapy.

The cost of the treatment varies from person to person and is generally dependent on the size of the area treated as well as complexity of the case. Getting Started in Skin Hair Removal

I researched about the most effective, less cost and less time requirement skin hair removal strategies. And here are my findings.

Waxing Strips, which have two kinds; the hard and strip wax. Both are applied with paper strips and in the same way. It took me an hour or two to finish the skin hair removal strategy. This strategy is definitely effective but the effect is only for a week. It requires you to repeat it in at least once a week. The disadvantage I found to this strategy is it might irritate the sensitive skin. It gave me trouble of having rashes and scratches. It only means that this strategy chooses the right skin it deals to.

Tweezers or Razors. Both methods are definitely effective and you can see it for yourself. Tweezers spent more time than razors. Since this skin hair removal method pulls the hair one by one it will take you two to three hours to finish especially when the hair have grown too much. Razors are more convenient to use because it cuts the hair thoroughly. It will only take you thirty minutes to finish the method. The disadvantages I found to the two methods are the same to waxing strategy those are for temporary effect and need to be maintained with at least once a week. The methods may also give rashes and scratches and sometimes injuries because of the razor blade. The equipments used to these skin hair removal methods need to be checked that they are free from rust to avoid infections.

Threading. This skin hair removal method is fun, effective, time convenient and costs less. They said that it is from India. And I appreciate Indian people because of the great idea they shared. I discovered the method in the internet and tried it in a salon somewhere in France. They used the thread to eliminate the hair and it only takes twenty minutes to finish it. The method looks painful when I found it online but when I tried it, it tickled my skin and it's amazing. The method is also for temporary effect just like tweezers, razor and waxing method but it did not irritate my skin.

Laser Skin Hair Removal is the best solution I found. I found it when I got sick of trying the temporary skin hair removal methods. I went to my dermatologist and asked for the permanent hair removal and this is what she offered me. The method uses laser and electrolysis to eliminate the hair from its inner roots or the hair follicles. It takes sessions to finish the whole method. And after all the sufferings, TaDa! I finally eliminated the problem. My wonderful dermatologist check my health conditions first before she did the method. And then no traces, no rashes, no injuries and scars my unwanted skin hair is removed!

Laser Skin Care Options

Surgery has been a popular means of treatment that people have turned to for combating the signs of aging. One simply has to think about the term celebrity and one of the things that immediately comes to mind is cosmetic surgery. As often revealed by magazines and newspapers, some procedures are more successful than others.

Skincare surgery procedures usually do not produce the desired results with a single surgical procedure. In addition, scarring is often the result, especially if the patient's skin is not in a relatively healthy condition to begin with.

The power of laser technology is probably the next-best alternative to surgical procedures in correcting serious skin problems. Laser skin treatment works by applying the destructive force of the laser beam on the outer layers of the skin.

The most popular laser skin care treatments include laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing, and laser scar removal. The benefits of these procedures are that they produce less bleeding, less bruising, and less post-surgery soreness than their surgical counterparts.

If you feel that your skin condition warrants this level of skin treatment, then it is wise to first do extensive research on the topic. Do not just rush to the nearest cosmetic surgeon and demand the procedure. It is very important that you fully understand what is involved, what to expect both before, during and after the treatment. You also need to understand the risks and potential for complications.

Laser skin resurfacing works by burning away the outer layers of the skin. The new outer layers of skin that the body produces consist of new cells that can provide you with a smoother and rejuvenated skin. The process of skin resurfacing yields longer lasing results compared to other alternatives of laser skin care.

There are side effects to laser skin resurfacing. It produces swelling, sun sensitivity, skin redness and lightening of the treated skin.

Laser scar removal treats all types of scars, such as scar tissue growth or tattoos, by reducing the appearance of these scars of up to 80 percent. Something to keep in mind is that the lighter your skin, the more successful a laser scar removal could be. The procedure tends to produce discoloration of darker pigmentation skin resulting in noticeable skin tone differences between the scar area and the surrounding skin tissue.

With laser hair removal the hairs are destroyed at the root level by the power of the laser beam. This procedure can be applied on any area of the body where you have unwanted hair. It generally provides lasting results that means you won't need waxing, tweezing, shaving and other painful ways of getting rid of body hair.

Laser skin treatment procedures may be costly and produce temporary discomfort, but on the benefit level they produce lasting results and are far less invasive than traditional cosmetic surgery.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

The latest rage in the cosmetics industry is laser hair removal. Gone are the days of painful hair reduction methods such as tweezing, bleaching, waxing, threading or plucking. These methods don't produce any permanent results and need to be repeated once every few weeks. Most people feel this is a real hassle and they are looking for a more permanent solution. Luckily, there is a permanent solution available now. It will cost you a pretty penny, but you're going to get real value for your money. Just think about all the time and effort that you will lose in your life if you keep reducing your hair the old fashioned way.

The laser hair removal treatment might be fairly expensive, but it might actually be cheaper for you in the long run. Especially if you keep having your body hair removed by a beauty clinic that charges you money for it. The old methods of tweezing and waxing have to be performed many times per year. So let's say you're a guy with back hair and you're paying $100 per waxing session and you do this 10 times per year. That's already a $1000 right there. And you'll be spending it every single year! For that money, you can have 1 or 2 laser treatments!

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

But what's the point of doing that if you're not sure that laser hair removal is permanent? If it's not, then you're just paying a whole lot more for the same, temporary results. Rest assured, laser hair removal is very permanent! The laser works by targeting hair follicles under your skin. These follicles absorb the laser's energy as heat and burn to a crisp. Hair follicles do not recover or grow back. They don't regenerate at all. It's possible that you will need multiple laser treatments to achieve permanent results, but your unwanted body hair will really be gone for good afterwards!

Laser hair removal uses a source of laser energy to remove hair, usually for a long term period of time. The laser treatment uses heat on the hair, which goes down into the hair follicle. This causes the hair follicle to slow down it's growth.

Usually the treatments are given at four week intervals, and involve three to five sessions. Sometimes a follow-up is needed, depending on exactly which area of the body the hair is being removed from. Some people have maintenance follow-ups, but will eventually get to the point where it only has to be done once a year or so.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

If you want to know how much a laser hair removal costs read below to see what I found after doing some extensive search on the topic.

There are several factors to be considered in establishing the cost for laser treatment:

First, different laser centers have different policies for cost establishment - some have flat fees for the different laser hair removal services, some charge by a time segment, and yet some charge a certain amount per each laser pulse.

The next thing to consider is how thick your hair is. In most cases people with thicker hair will pay more than people with less thick hair. Also the difference in the skin tone and the hair color is of great importance for establishing the price.

Laser treatments work best for people with lighter skin and darker hair as laser light needs dark color to work efficiently. So, if you are fair-skinned and have dark hair you should expect to pay less.

Another thing to consider is how big is the area you want your hair removed from. Generally the bigger the area the greater the cost. Example: hair removed from the back will cost significantly more than hair removed from the upper lip. Apart from that different areas will require different number of treatments for more permanent effect. Another example: back area might require as many as 7 - 8 treatments whereas a permanent upper lip hair removal might need not more than 4 or 5.

Finally, keep in mind that prices vary with the location of the center. A service in the mid west and the west cost will cost you more then what you could be charged if you were treated in the south. Laser hair removal treatments cost the most on the east and west cost.

The average price for a laser hair removal is about $360. A single sitting can cost as much as $750. As I said earlier a successful and permanent hair removal will require at least several sittings, which means you should expect to pay at least $3500 for a complete back hair removal procedure. The same procedure can run as high as $6000.

Moles on Skin - Removal Options For Skin Moles

They're round, dark, and almost everybody hates them!

Moles on skin especially the ones that crop up on your face ruin your look and your flawless skin. Some people are born with moles on skin while others appear over time...and they are generally formed in young adults up to 40 years of age.

Most of the time, these dark spots or irregularities on your skin are NOT harmful.

HOWEVER, if those moles on skin changes in size and shape, itches or bleeds, removing them and seeking for medical advice and help is NOT an option...it's a MUST!

And if you're at your wits end, thinking how to get rid of those moles, worry NOT. There are different ways to remove them effectively and safely.

What are these methods?

Let's take a look at some of them.

Mole Removal Method One

If your moles on skin are irregular in shape and are suspected to be cancerous or flat and flush with your skin's surface, cutting it out to its full depth and stitching the wound may be your number one option.

Once that is done, the mole that's been extracted from your skin is sent to a laboratory for examination - to see if it's really harmful or benign.

Mole Removal Method Two

So stitches are NOT your cup of tea?

Yeah, I hate them, too! And many people think that removing your skin's moles through cauterization is a serious option to consider. With this method, the mole is burned away and the burns or wounds are allowed to heal naturally.

No stitches required!

Mole Removal Method Three

The last clinical mole removal method may look like an advanced form of cauterization - laser surgery procedure.

As you may have guessed, the mole is removed through laser. What made laser a suitable tool for mole removal is the fact that it seals the blood vessels while removing the tissue through evaporation.

Not to mention the scar tissues are less visible and the wounds heal faster with this method.

If visiting the doctor or surgeon doesn't seem like a good idea to you, there are natural removal options to get rid of those moles on skin. Using over the counter creams that causes the moles to scab and be zapped from your skin is just one of your natural skin removal options.

Many people are leaning towards holistic solutions to taking care of their health.

In 2003, a method for removing moles naturally, using safe, organic ingredients was discovered. This method for removing moles yielded fantastic results, with most moles disappearing in 3 DAYS! Laser Hair Removal is a Top Decision For Summer

As the weather warms up and sun worshipers and fashion lovers alike peel off the layers, laser hair removal is becoming a popular choice to remove unwanted body hair and keep you skin looking beautiful. Waxing, shaving and using creams are short-term answers to achieving the perfect summer look, but for more permanent solutions, more and more people are turning to laser treatment.

Technology and fashion hand in hand

Permanent removal treatment is common for areas such as the bikini line, underarms, legs, arms and face, and for some people it's not just a matter of vanity. Unwanted body hair can seriously impact on some people's lives, making them extremely self-conscious and having a major effect on how they live their lives or even affecting their relationships.

Laser treatment is one of the most effective and permanent forms of hair removal. It works by burning the hair down to follicle level, interrupting the growth cycle of the follicle and preventing it from re-growing. The sensation has been likened to being 'pinged' with a rubber band and although can be uncomfortable for a very short time, is ultimately extremely effective at preventing unwanted body hair from re-growing. The process can also be used to remove small thread veins that can appear on the surface of the skin as it ages.

Alternatives

There are alternatives to laser hair removal such as electrolysis and hot wax, but although these salon methods are effective in the short term, re-growth is often much more likely than with laser hair removal treatments. If you are considering laser hair removal, it is strongly advised that you check that your salon is registered with the Quality Care Commission and that they carry out a patch test to make sure the treatment is suitable for your skin type. Some skins, particularly darker skins, may not be suitable for some forms of laser skin treatment, as the process interrupts the skin's production of melanin - the chemical pigmentation of the skin. If used incorrectly, laser treatment can cause scarring, so it is important to ensure that your therapist is fully qualified and certified to use the equipment and follows a strict code of practice.

Baring all on the beach is a great deal more satisfying if you don't have to worry about unsightly or unwanted body hair. It's not just for girls, either. More and more men are seeking out skin treatments to remove their own unwanted body hair and as the summer months bring out bronzed bodies and bare skin, laser hair removal specialists are predicting a surge in people looking to permanently remove unwanted hair.

Comparison of Laser Hair Removal Methods

Getting rid of unsightly or unwanted body hair is something that most adults spend some time dealing with. Traditionally women have been more concerned with "unsightly" hair because it is generally considered unacceptable for a woman to have obvious facial hair, or significant growth anywhere on their bodies other than the obvious places.

While men are usually content to spend five or ten minutes every day shaving their facial hair, the situation for most women is quite different. Because of cultural expectations women find themselves much more preoccupied with the task of eliminating or at least temporarily dealing with unwanted hair.

Old fashioned shaving is a never ending ordeal for many women. It is time consuming, annoyingly temporary, and often quite uncomfortable - especially where nicks and cuts are involved. And there are some parts of the body where shaving just won't work for women - especially the facial areas.

That is why millions of women turn to alternatives such as depilatories, waxing, electrolysis and laser hair removal. What are these things, and what are their strengths and weaknesses?

Using a depilatory cream involves applying a chemical treatment to the hair you want to remove. The most commonly used chemical is some variant of calcium thioglycolate. When applied to the skin it breaks down the disulfide bonds in keratin - a component of hair - and weakens the hair so it can be easily scraped off or pulled from the hair follicle.

While depilatory treatments are relatively inexpensive, and can be applied by oneself at home, they also have some serious disadvantages. For starters, they have a foul chemical smell and can result in serious skin irritation or allergic reactions. The treatments also do not last very long. Regrowth starts to appear within a couple of days. In some people - especially people with darker hair - a shadow is clearly visible beneath the surface of the skin.

Waxing is another common form of hair removal. The normal waxing procedure involves spreading a special wax mixture over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is then pressed on top of the wax and pulled off with a quick ripping motion.

As you can imagine, this can be a fairly painful experience, but the major advantage of waxing is that it does a thorough hair removal job that lasts for between two and eight weeks - much longer than shaving or depilatory creams. A major disadvantage is the relatively high cost - waxing is usually done by a licensed cosmetologist - especially in light of the fact it has to be done again every few weeks.

Waxing also commonly irritates the skin surface, sometimes causing ingrown hairs and red bumps in the skin. Even more annoying is the tendency for the ripping action to disturb the follicles causing the hair to grow in different directions and creating an unkempt, blotchy look.

Electrolysis is another commonly used hair removal technique. It involves a fairly delicate procedure in which a technician inserts a hair-thin metal probe into each individual hair follicle. When done properly the skin is not punctured. Electricity is then delivered for about a minute to the follicle through the probe with the result that the follicle is damaged so it will not generate new hair.

The major advantage of electrolysis is that it permanently eliminates hair growth from the treated follicles. Another advantage is that it can be used on people of all skin types and hair colors.

The most significant disadvantage of electrolysis is the time it takes. Even a small area can take hours of treatment. So that means doing an area of any size will take months of treatments, and that makes it a very expensive type of treatment.

Finally there is laser hair removal. Special laser devices eliminate hair growth by applying heat to hair follicles below the surface of the skin. The heat damages the follicle so it won't generate hair growth. That means laser hair removal offers permanent hair removal similar to electrolysis.

The laser method works by seeking out follicles based on the presence of melanin - the substance that gives both the hair and the follicle its darker color. That means the system works best on people with light skin and dark hair where the laser has an easier time zeroing in on follicles.

That also means it is less effective in treating blonde or reddish hair. But as new laser technology is developed and technicians acquire more skill and experience a broader range of skin and hair types are being treated by this hair removal process.

The major advantage of laser hair removal is that it provides a permanent hair removal solution that is much faster, much more convenient, much less painful, and much less costly than electrolysis. Laser hair removal treatments can be performed in minutes rather than in hours.

With laser hair removal facial hair can be removed in a ten or fifteen minute treatment. Other larger areas such as the legs or back can be treated in a few short sessions stretching over weeks rather than months as is the case with electrolysis. As a result laser hair removal has become the most popular type of procedure for people looking for a way to permanently eliminate unwanted hair growth.

Cosmetic laser surgery has certainly come a long way from its early beginnings. What was once a very expensive and drawn out procedure has become a cost effective and sought after procedure in treating various areas of the body.

Lasers of today can pinpoint specific areas of the skin and can reach places that would be nearly impossible to reach with a scalpel. In addition, laser surgery takes away those surgical scars that use to be the norm.

Today, many people use cosmetic laser surgery to help them look and feel younger. Laser procedures such as face lifts, eye and chin lifts have exploded in popularity. And with good reason; these cosmetic procedures can make you appear 20 years younger in many cases.

Cosmetic laser surgery, while very safe to perform, does involve some risk, but that can be said about any type of surgery.

Cosmetic surgery will take a while to heal. During this healing period you could notice things such as:

-Reddening of the skin that almost looks like a rash

-Flushing

-Hypopigmentation

-Possible scarring

Although these side effects are rare, you need to be aware of them in any event.

The biggest secret in having a successful surgery is always in finding your best doctor. Be sure you thoroughly check out the credentials of any doctor before making a decision. Please do not overlook this important point.

Ask questions and don't be shy. You want to know you are in capable, well qualified hands before having surgery. By taking some extra time with this step you will be much happier and experience and dramatically reduce the risk of anything going wrong.

Cosmetic laser surgery is a great option for anyone looking to refresh their skin and gain back the years.

Easy Health Information on Laser Vein Removal

A surgical procedure known as vein stripping used to be the most effective means of eliminating unattractive veins such as spider veins (telangiectasias), blue veins (reticular veins) and varicose veins. While posing a mostly cosmetic concern, these undesirable veins dampen self-confidence and can itch and hurt when they become severe. Laser's vein removal including radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy and endovenous therapy has now eased surgery off as the treatment of choice because it is fast, permanent and nearly painless. No general anesthetic is needed because the procedure is minimally invasive only, and each session takes as short as 20 minutes.

The typical method of laser vein removal entails beams or pulses of laser energy being fired onto a target vein. Using a greater degree of heat, they shut off vein walls to stop blood from flowing until the destroyed veins shrink and are re-assimilated into the body in a period of three to six weeks. Med school taught technicians can administer the treatment without any risk of scalding the bordering skin or killing local tissue. They are trained to supplement the procedure with cooling, whether using a cooling gel or chilled air from the laser instrument, so the patient feels as little stinging as possible.

Spider veins receive the best benefits of light-based or laser treatment because they are smaller and easier to diminish. No more than 10% of blood is channeled through these superficial veins so the disappearance of some has no ill effects on the body. Affected skin areas clear up and blood is redirected to healthier veins, resulting in more youthful-looking and evenly colored skin. Those who are prone to keloid formation are not advised to get any laser treatment on the skin.

Varicose veins necessitated a more invasive treatment that may involve the help of a vein care specialist, specifically, a Phlebologist. The use of anesthesia is required for cutting skin so a small tube can be slotted into the body for focusing laser energy on larger deep veins. Just about any restoration clinic or rejuvenating spa today can conduct laser vein removal for spider veins as capably as performing cellulite injections, wrinkle or tattoo removal.

Gentle Carbon Dioxide Laser Promises to Rid Skin of Stretch Marks

A new laser treatment being used in the United Kingdom promises a literal smoothing away of age spots and stretch marks. The laser treatment utilizes high-powered carbon dioxide pulses to vaporize the external layers of the human skin, allowing for better re-growth and literal skin renewal in a matter of weeks. The laser has been touted as being gentler than conventional laser surgery because the energetic pulses used in this treatment uses C02 instead of just lasers.

The aim is not to "burn" away but to vaporize, leading to less pain, and easier recovery. The treatment aims to help happinesslifetime.com aging skin gain a smoother appearance, and may also be used to repair skin complexions that have already diminished due to aging, skin damage or other extrinsic factors.

The results have so far been positive, and the recovery time has been marked at the 1-2 day mark. Patients who wish to partake of the gentler C02 laser treatment do not need to undergo general anesthetic during their stay at the clinic or at the hospital, and thus, the treatment is less painful and less obstructive than the traditional laser treatment.

The procedure

Why doesn't this newer treatment produce less pain in patients? The reason for this is that the targeting done during treatment is more finely tuned and accurate, and thus exposes the over-all skin surface to less of the actual C02 laser treatment. Another important facet about this new C02 treatment is that it targets specific lines which are very appropriate for those who have problems with stretch marks.

Stretch marks appear spidery in its general appearance, but one should take note that the striae actually occur in individual fine lines and that the lines themselves should be treated as such: as fine, individual lines. Now, the C02 laser would be able to penetrate until the collagen-rich middle layers of the skin, allowing for better regeneration and removal of other scars present on the human skin.

The traditional laser has been known to produce swelling and reddening on the skin, and has not been appropriate treatment for all individuals with differing skin types. The beam of light of the C02 laser allows for specific spots to simply evaporate from sight, allowing unblemished skin to remain untouched by the hot laser. The effect is that the blemished layers are removed, and the C02 laser actually stimulates the collagen-rich layers of the skin. The area hit by the C02 laser pulses eventually tighten over a period of time. Usually in less than half a year, the results of continuous medical treatment can already be seen.

The advantage of newer models of the C02 laser, such as those that are being marketed and tested in the United States, result in even less pain and redness and are more easily controlled by the ones performing the procedure. In the over all scheme of things, the newer models of the C02 lasers navigate the skin's surface much more gently and efficiently. All it takes before the procedure is a simple application of medicated and anesthetic gel to the areas to be hit by the C02 laser.

The Skinny on Laser Resurfacing Acne Scars

Have you thought about laser resurfacing acne scars?

What It Is. Laser resurfacing is only one of many ablative skin techniques. Ablative means "wounding", and laser resurfacing does just that. It removes sun-damaged or aged skin to allow younger skin to take its place.

What to Expect. When you undergo the procedure, a laser is aimed directly at the target area. The beam destroys the epidermis, or the outer layer of the skin. At the same time, it heats the dermis, or the underlying skin. In so doing, it stimulates new collagen fibers to grow. By the time your wound heals (yes, wounds, because you literally are wounded), you will have skin that's tighter and smoother.

The procedure does not require you to stay for the night in the hospital.

This is what will happen before the laser is brought out: your face will be thoroughly cleaned, your hair will be covered, and you will be given eye protection. The treatment can be quite painful, so your doctor may either knock you out (using general anesthetics) or numb your skin with local anesthetics. Either way, you can expect the process to last anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the severity of your acne scars and the size of the area being targeted.

What Happens After the Procedure. After skin has been resurfaced, it may ooze yellowish liquid. It may also blister. Do not pick on the crusts, or you will end up badly scarred. Fortunately, you won't be at liberty to pick at will because your face will be covered with bandage, the size of which depends on the facial areas treated. Bandages are typically removed after a day or two. Pain is to be expected, so you may take Tylenol or ask your doctor to prescribe something stronger.

So, is laser resurfacing acne scars for you? If you're ready for the expense, the pain, and the recovery time, why not?

It can improve your complexion and lessen the scarring somewhat. It will not treat acne, though, so you'll have to hit the drugstores for lotions and creams. Bottomline: if you want to get rid of acne, not just the scars, laser resurfacing acne scars should be used in tandem with other treatment methods.

Laser Treatment For Acne - Types of Laser Treatments For Acne Scars

In a world that is surrounded by various impediments and obstacles to self esteem and confidence, it is important to have a look that packages both esteem and confidence. Skin infections and blemishes, known as acne vulgaris are a huge let down in this perspective and will require treatment ranging from mild options to severe treatments like the laser treatment for acne marks.

Acne vulgaris is a serious skin infection that mostly occurs during the teenage age and sometimes around the twenties. It mostly affects the areas of the skin with sebaceous glands. Self confidence is a huge aspect at this point in time and in many cases sufferers will feel a lot like they are unaccepted by others because of what they look like. It is a common problem suffered by millions of people around the world and it is one which for a long time has sent minds twirling in such for a remedy or at least a way out of it. As a solution to this problem, laser treatment for acne has been discovered to settle the minds and hearts of people world over.

In the battle against acute acne and blemishes, laser treatment for acne is probably the best solution that will clear your problems leaving you spotless and worry-free. It does not matter where on the body the acne is located; whether it is acne that is mostly on the face or the whole body and you are somewhat embarrassed, laser treatment is sure to provide the much needed solution to your problem. This kind of treatment will render that in just your first visit, the blemishes will diminish by a whole 37% and within the next two visits, 85% reduction will be noticeable. Eventually in 4 to 5 visits, you are bound to have your self esteem and confidence reignited because you will be blemish free.

There are three particular examples of laser treatment which will produce great results. They include Blue Light Therapy, Pulsed light and heat energy therapy and Diode laser treatment. Blue light therapy is a painless procedure that involves bringing the skin in contact with a low intensity blue light source that cleans away the acne. It is usually done in a series of sessions. Pulsed light and heat energy therapy on the other hand involves pulsed light and heat energy being used to destroy the acne and demobilizes the sebaceous glands which in turn reduce the oil production. The final type of laser treatment for acne is the Diode laser treatment which does away with sebaceous glands in the dermis, the thick middle layer of the skin, but does not harm the outer layer of the skin.

Certain types of acne will not respond to the everyday treatment and this is why the different examples of laser treatment for acne are increasingly gaining in overall popularity. It also explains the fact that it is becoming a lot easier to find dermatologists who will perform the complex procedures related to laser technology.

Laser Skin Treatment - Choosing the Best Clinic

Like with any other medical treatment, choosing the right laser skin treatment clinic for your treatment session is imperative for a successful outcome. The first step in finding the best clinic is to schedule consultations with several doctors who offer laser skin treatments.

At these visits, the doctor will ask questions about your medical history and conduct an inspection of your skin. Then, they should ask about your motivations and expectations for the procedure, and explain the results that may be possible in your specific situation. The doctor you choose should take the time to explain the procedure carefully and choose the appropriate laser method for your procedure, because there are several different options for laser skin treatment. The pre-treatment visit can and should be lengthy; be wary of any doctor who does not seem interested in your particular needs before signing you up for the procedure.

The most important step you can take when choosing a clinic is ensuring that they are fully licensed and certified, and have experience using the specific type of laser which will be used during your procedure. Laser procedures are usually very safe, but choosing the right doctor can further reduce your risks. Lasers are powerful; and someone inexperienced may apply the settings incorrectly, increasing your risk of complications or side effects. Do not be afraid to ask the doctor the number of laser procedures they have been performed, or ask for references and before-and-after photos of his or her patients.

Ask the doctor plenty of questions during your consultation visit. You should come away from the meeting feeling completely confident about your upcoming laser skin treatment session. The doctor should fully explain the procedure, possible risks, and expected outcome before allowing you to commit to treatment. Understanding the procedure can help you relax before and during the procedure itself.

If you do not feel completely comfortable with the clinic or procedure, do not choose it. You should be able to communicate freely with the doctor you choose, and feel that they actually care about your concerns. Above all, make sure that you feel you can trust the doctor with your skin.

Never base the decision solely on price. Your skin is more important than that. The doctor's years of experience and expertise using laser methods is more important than saving a few dollars; you will be disappointed if you choose to use a second-rate laser skin treatment clinic because they offered the lowest price. If cost is an issue for you, choose a quality doctor and then ask about payment plans or financing options.

Considering The Option Of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure which utilizes pulses of intense light to remove unwanted hairs in certain parts of the body. People resort to this kind of procedure when they want to get rid of body hair for a long time.

Melanin is used by the body to make hair, which makes the hair darker than the person's skin. Lasers work by detecting darker materials and heating them up. This technique is called selective photothermolysis (SPTL). This is why, even though laser hair removal can be used by anyone, it works best for people with darker hair, and works especially well for those with light skin and dark hair. Newer laser models have been developed to be even more sensitive in the dark/light detection so that all skin and hair tones can be candidates for the service.

People with darker skins and light complexions are said to be good candidates for a laser hair removal treatment. This is due to the fact that the process focuses on darker areas of the body. Melanin is the main component of the hair and it is solely responsible for the dark colors of some parts of the body. The process, also known as selective photothermolysis(SPTL), focuses on dark areas of the body and targets it using heat energy. However, there are new technological developments which also targets those people with darker skin tones.

With this in mind, the patient should always wear goggles to protect his or her eyes from the laser beams. The dermatologist may also use a topical anesthesia to avoid discomfort. The laser itself will be held in the dermatologist's hand and pressed onto the patient's skin for each pulse of light.

How many sessions is required for total hair removal? That depends on the thickness of the hair growth and the size of the area/s. The upper lip, for example, will only require a few minutes per session while the legs, thighs and back will take an hour or even more. In general, though, hair removal treatments will require from about 3 to 8 sessions, with follow-up treatments for touchups, which are usually scheduled every 6 to 12 months. Sessions are spaced several weeks apart to allow the skin to rest and heal.

When it comes to laser hair removal cost, the amount will vary because it all depends on the area of the body that needs treatment. Smaller areas cost less like the neck and the face while the wider parts would naturally be more expensive. The usual cost of laser hair removal would be from one hundred fifty to nine hundred dollars. Patients who want this procedure usually need more than one session. This means that they need to go back to the clinic for another session. Due to this, doctors would usually offer discounts if the patient opts to have advanced purchases or one-time session. With this, the patient can save more money for the entire procedure.

Lasers Provide a New Way to Treat Hair Removal

Unsightly hair is a problem that many men and women face all over their bodies. Common methods of hair removal are usually temporary and ineffective at totally removing all hair, and not-to-mention messy. The use of lasers in hair removal is unquestionable in their effectiveness and ability to save you invaluable time.

When hair removal is done by laser the treatment area is first numbed with a lotion, cream, or gel and the laser is then used to emit a pulse of high energy heated light that kills the hair follicles but does not damage the surrounding skin.

Who should get laser hair removal?

Just as in all cases of treating either the hair or skin with a laser, darker hair and lighter skin are the best combination for laser hair removal. The laser targets pigments, so if you have darker skin the more likely it is that you will absorb the laser into your skin causing damage. However, there are ways in which individuals with darker skin and lighter hair can also receive hair removal treatments both with and without the use of lasers.

Areas that are commonly treated for hair removal

o Legs

o Bikini area

o Back

o Chest

o Face

o Underarms

Benefits of laser hair removal

o No more buying creams, gels, razors, and waxes

o Requires fewer treatment sessions than other procedures such as electrolysis

o Results can last anywhere from a couple of months to permanently

Before you get hair removal treatment

1. Seek help from a professional laser hair treatment professional. Don't try to skimp on costs by going to someone who isn't licensed or certified specifically in laser hair treatment. Remember this is your body and there's no room for error.

2. Ask plenty of questions regarding how long the procedure(s) will take, the cost of treatment, the type of lasers that will be used, and any other questions you may have

3. Don't expect immediate results. Most laser treatments occur over the course of weeks to even months; when you include the time that you have to wait in between treatments, so it is possible for a while it may look like change is slow to nothing. Be patient, it's a process and it does take time.

Laser hair removal should only be done by professionals who are experienced in the procedure and can provide you pre and post treatment care. If you suffer from unwanted or excessive hair then laser hair removal treatment may be just what the doctor ordered.

Younger Looking Skin With Laser Skin Resurfacing

While the aging process cannot be stopped, there is now an effective way to slow and even reverse the visible effects.  Over the past few years, thousands of patients have successfully undergone ablative skin resurfacing or laser skin resurfacing and the popularity of this safe and effective cosmetic procedure is growing quickly as more physicians add it to their list of elective services.

What Are The Benefits?

Intense Pulsed Light - IPL skin rejuvenation has many benefits over traditional plastic surgery.  With a laser, patients generally experience much shorter healing time and far less discomfort.  Bleeding and bruising are almost non-existent and the risk of major complications lower. Additionally, laser assisted aesthetic skin renewal is much less expensive than traditional cosmetic surgery.  Ablative pulsed light procedures also offer superior and more lasting results when compared to chemical peels and microdermabrasion.  These cosmetic treatments only remove the upper surface layers of the skin where lasers are able to treat at a much deeper level with the added benefit of stimulating the production of new collagen fibers.

How Does It Work?

Ablative laser therapy vaporizes old, damaged, discolored, and wrinkled skin with short, concentrated beams of intense pulsed light.   This process not only gets rid of old damaged skin but stimulates the growth of fresh, new skin.  Collagen fibers, which are chiefly responsible for the youthful appearance of our skin are more plentiful as new skin forms.  This virgin skin also has increased blood flow and better tone giving patients a more youthful complexion.

Is it Safe?

There are risks involved with any medical procedure.  That being said, relatively speaking, major complications are very rare with pulsed light skin renewal.  Some possible risks worth noting are; burning, scarring, skin discoloration, and possible infection.  When laser skin resurfacing is performed by a qualified, experienced physician with proper after care, these possible complications are minimized and results are enhanced.

Is it Painful?

Laser skin resurfacing is generally performed with local and general anesthesia so the procedure itself is painless.  Any discomfort is usually felt during the healing process but can be effectively managed with medication your doctor may prescribe. If you are to remain awake during your procedure, in addition to local anesthesia, you may be offered a mild sedative to help you relax. The procedure itself can be done in a hospital, or medical office if properly equipped and usually takes about an hour depending upon the size of the area being treated.  It is important that you speak with your physician about pain management and sedation options so that you are most comfortable before, during and after your laser skin resurfacing procedure.

How Long Does It Take To Heal?

Healing time varies from individual to individual but is generally complete by 10 to 21 days following treatment.  This of course depends upon the depth of the laser ablation and the size of the area treated.  Your doctor will advise you on the best ways to manage discomfort, prevent infection, scarring, and speed healing. Generally speaking, patients that adhere to all after care instructions and attend scheduled follow up visits with their doctor experience the best results.

How Long Does It Last?

The lasting effects of laser skin resurfacing vary from individual to individual depending upon overall skin health, age, accumulated sun damage, skin imperfections, and skin color.  Other factors that can affect results include the skill of the laser operator, the depth of the treatment, and the quality & settings of the laser equipment.  While cosmetic skin renewal using intense pulsed light removes layers of old, damaged skin it does not stop the aging process. Wrinkles, discoloration, and other skin imperfections may reappear throughout your lifetime and there may be a need to repeat the procedure at some point in the future.

How Much Does It Cost?

Because laser skin rejuvenation is an elective procedure, it is generally not covered by insurance. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the national average for a single laser skin tightening or renewal treatment is approximately $2,400.  Treatments can cost more or less depending upon your goals & conditions. Once your physician of choice has evaluated your skin and your treatment goals, you will have a better idea of what your actual costs will be.  Make sure that the price you are quoted is in writing and includes the procedure, anesthesia, and all after care like dressings, ointments, and follow up appointments.  You may also want to inquire about the cost of prescription medications you may need to fight infection, speed healing & manage pain.  If the costs exceed your budget but you are determined to have your treatment anyways, ask about in office payment plans or 3rd party financing options.

Laser Skin Resurfacing, Chemical Peels and Dermabrasion

Many people would love to freshen up their skin and take a few years off of their face but do not want to go to extremes such as plastic surgery or Botox injections. Fortunately, there are many options available that involve no incisions, injections, or other frightening and very permanent procedures.

Chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing are three methods of facial rejuvenation that can help you look and feel years younger without the commitment and cost of plastic surgery.

Chemical peels treat a variety of problems including fine lines, acne, scars, sun damage, uneven skin tone, deep wrinkles, and can even help eliminate pre-cancerous growths. There are three main types: superficial, medium and deep. Each uses different combinations of chemicals to attain desired results.

Superficial and medium peels involve applying the chemical to the skin and then removing it after a set period of time. There is little or no pain, but may be some redness afterwards. Deep peels are more intense and may require pain medication and possibly fluids delivered via IV. A special ointment or tape is then applied after the peel which must remain on the face for a day or so.

Superficial and medium chemical treatments can help remove minor facial impurities such as fine lines and acne. They will leave your face looking refreshed and even, but to see optimal results a few treatments may be needed over a period of time.

Sometimes superficial peels are used before deep peels to prep the skin. Deeper treatments cannot be used on those with darker skin pigments as it could cause discoloration. The effects of deep treatments are dramatic and visible immediately. Skin looks and feels tighter and smoother.

If chemical peels sound too harsh or extreme for you, dermabrasion is a mild alternative. A wand with a rotating disc is massaged over the face. The disc has a rough surface which loosens the first few layers of cells from the skin's surface, revealing the new, unblemished layer beneath.

The procedure is gentle enough for most skin types, but don't expect the results to be dramatic. Continued dermabrasion over time has shown great improvements in the skin appearance and texture, but there are no overnight results. Over time, consistent use can help eliminate blemishes that lie deep within the skin layers.

Laser skin resurfacing is sometimes used in conjunction with chemical peels to achieve optimal results. A laser destroys the top layers of skin cells, eliminating wrinkles, fine lines, acne, and discoloration. Usually one treatment is enough, but sometimes a second may be necessary. Pain medication is often necessary after treatment and you will need a few days for recovery.

Facial rejuvenation doesn't have to involve highly invasive injections or plastic surgery. To achieve a fresh-looking face you don't always have to go the extremes. Before assuming you need a facelift or injections to eliminate unwanted wrinkles, consider a less invasive option first.

Starting a dermabrasion routine early can even prevent you from having to undergo laser or chemical treatments down the road.

Laser Hair Removal Works. But, Not All Systems Are the Same.

Which laser to choose?

- Spot size

The spot size of a laser determines how much skin area can be covered per laser pulse. Additionally, only the largest spot sizes can address hair follicles at deeper levels. Lasers with larger spot sizes (18 mm)can cover more area much more quickly. For example, a laser hair removal treatment of the back or full legs could take as long as 2 hours with older lasers. Today, these areas can be completely treated in less than 20 minutes.

How many lasers does the practice own?

There is no single laser that can effectively treat all skin types. Light skinned people need s short pulse for efficient hair removal, while dark skinned people require a longer pulse to ensure safety and to protect the skin. Be sure to find a medical practice with a minimum of 2 lasers.

- Cooling systems

Each laser has a different way of cooling the skin. Some lasers use a topical cooling gel, others use a chilled tip. The most consistent, comfortable and safest way to cool the skin is with a Dynamic Cooling Device or DCD. Lasers equipped with a DCD cooling system are so effective in providing cooling to the skin that no topical numbing creams are necessary.

- Light Sources

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Systems are not lasers. They can remove hair, but recent peer reviewed medical studies show that IPL systems are not the current standard for laser hair removal.

Choosing a Laser Hair Removal Center

Board Certified Physician

Many laser hair removal centers today operate without a physician. It is important to be certain that a board certified physician is on the premises or available in case of a concern.

Laser Hair Removal works on hair while it is in the growth phase only. At any given time, between 20% to 40% of the hair on any face or body area may be in a growth phase. Multiple treatments are required for complete clearance of the hair. However, each person may respond slightly differently. Laser hair removal centers should charge for just one treatment at a time. A reputable medical office or medical spa offering laser hair removal will offer individual treatments and not insist on payment of multiple treatments up front.

Pricing:

Because lasers for hair removal are much faster today than ever before, prices should be lower as well. An office offering laser hair removal can charge less for a laser hair removal treatment of the legs taking just 20 minutes vs. a 2 hour treatment with an older generation laser.

Specials and Guarantees

Avoid centers offering "specials" on treatment packages, particularly if there is pressure to buy because a "special" is set to expire. If a laser works well, specials aren't needed. Some "laser centers Guarantee results only to go out of business, so beware of business practices that don't make sense to you.

Cost available online and on the phone:

The cost of a treatment isn't based on the amount of hair. Price is based on time and the area treated. A person with sparse hair in any given area will require the same amount of time and pulses as a a person with very dense hair in the same area. if a laser center is unwilling to provide prices over the phone or online, that could be a red flag and a center that puts a lot of pressure on consumers in their facility.

How to Remove Spider Veins With Laser Treatments

None of us like to see spider veins and leg veins on our calves, thighs and ankles. They make our legs look old. Spider veins and leg veins are particularly embarrassing when we wear a bathing suit at the beach. Older methods for removing spider veins and leg veins required painful injections and caused bruising. However, new 1064 laser methods are much less painful, effective, and do not cause bruising or down time. These new methods are quick and simple, but they must be done while you do not have a tan. It is best to have these treatments now, during the spring, before the beach and tanning season starts.

How to Remove Spider Veins and Leg Veins

All non-surgical therapies to remove leg veins work by injuring the inside of the vessel wall. The injury causes the blood vessel to close and disappear. Older injection techniques such as sclerotherapy injected a strong irritant into the vessel to cause the vessel to close down. Newer laser light based methods use a properly selected light wavelength which is absorbed by the blood inside the vessel, causes the blood to boil, which injures the vessel wall and causes the vessel to close.

The best laser wavelength for vessel removal is the 1064nm laser. The best IPL wavelength for small blood vessels is the IPL green in the 650nm range. Unlike earlier laser treatments with the Pulsed Dye laser, the newer 1064nm treatments do not burst the vessel, but work gradually, thus there is less risk of bruising. The newer 1064nm lasers have excellent cooling tips to prevent skin injury during treatment.

What Are Laser Treatments Like?

Most treatments take about half an hour. A soothing cool gel is placed on the skin to be treated. This gel is not only for your comfort, but also to improve effectiveness of the treatment and help avoid skin injury. The small special cooling tip of the hand piece is pressed over the area to be treated and the light is flashed repeatedly along the course of the vessel to be removed.

You and the person treating you will be wearing special protective eyeglasses or goggles to protect the eyes during treatment.

Does Removal Hurt?

The new improved cooling tip makes these treatments much more comfortable than earlier methods. All patients are able to undergo this treatment without anesthesia or pain killers. I compare the sensation to a brief snap of a rubber band. Most patients find the noise of the machine to be more startling than the sensation on the skin.

What Will My Skin Look Like After Treatment?

The skin overlying the treated blood vessel will appear pink right after treatment. The pink or red color lasts a few hours to a day.

The major advantage of the 1064nm is that it does not rupture the vessel as did older pulsed dye machines. This is a major benefit which reduces down time. The older pulsed dye caused bruising that could take weeks to go away.

When Do I See A Result?

The new methods cause a gradual shrinkage and closure of the vessel. This generally takes about 5 weeks. Some vessels disappear immediately during treatment, but larger vessels will close gradually after a few weeks. You will see the vessels getting smaller as the days go by.

How many Treatments Will I Need?

It is impossible to close all vessels during the first treatment. Usually 3 treatments scheduled 5 weeks apart are required. The third treatment is a cleanup treatment to remove small vessels left behind.

Will I have Downtime after Treatment?

You will not have down time due to pain, bruising or other visible marks. However I do recommend that you wear compression stockings for a period after treatment. The compression stockings prevent blood from flowing back into the vessel as the vessel is closing down.

I also recommend that you avoid heavy lifting and weight lifting and running for about 10 days to two weeks after treatment.

What Is The Best Machine?

The 1064nm is the preferred and most widely used for blood vessel removal. I have used several different brands and am happiest with the Palomar Lux1064+. The characteristic of this machines pulse width and cooling tip have produced better vessel removal results and less discomfort in my patients, than others I have used.

Where Should I Have My Treatment?

This is a controversial question. Many Spas and medical Spas offer treatments in their facility when no supervising doctor is present. These machines are very effective but potentially dangerous medical devices that must be used by properly trained and supervised personnel. In my office, a nurse or medical aesthetician that I have trained and directly supervise does these treatments.

My own opinion is that lasers should only be used in a licensed medical office under the supervision of a physician who is present in the facility. The presence of an experienced board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist is an important safety feature for you the patient.

Micro-Current Heals Side Effects of Laser

As a micro-current facelift practitioner, I've seen first hand how typical happinesslifetime.com laser facial treatments can often backfire. Micro-current is well-known for its healing capabilities, as well as its anti-aging properties. This knowledge came in handy the other day, when one of my clients called me in tears and devastated. She had "treated" herself to a happinesslifetime.com laser facial treatment, thinking "why not? It can't hurt".

The results of her one treatment were showing up on her face, and not in a nice way! Broken capillaries, swollen eyes, pain, burning and redness - and noticeable hyper pigmentation! (those little dark spots we get on our faces). Great! She'd gone for a laser treatment to look better - not worse! Now she was a hot mess!

The "side effects" she was now experiencing were no joy, as you can imagine. They're actually considered common and normal! I immediately had her come into my studio. I applied low-level micro-current all over her face, which has a soothing feeling, and it helped to calm her down. When she left, her skin appeared less inflamed. The next day she called to let me know her swelling had gone down, she had diminished pain, and the plumpness and moisture were returning to her skin.

She still had some broken capillaries, but they appeared less dark in colour. She came back for a couple more quick sessions, and her skin was now glowing. She was relieved to not have to cringe her way through the painful laser procedure. Micro-current is so gentle that many people don't even feel it. And the bonus with a micro-current facial is that so many good things come with it! Lifting and firming of the muscles, collagen production, tissue healing, and wholebody rejuvenation, as the tiny current works across meridian lines to support, energize and balance the rest of the body. There's no down time for healing needed.

Case in point folks. Do your research on the side effects of laser treatments before you run out to try the latest one! Once you've tried micro-current - you may never go back!

Understanding Today's Laser Treatment Options

When seeking self-improvement in any area, whether it be for the body, mind, spirit or skin, having a variety of options available can be a great advantage to you. But navigating through all those options to find the ones most suited for you can be confusing. Thanks to today'[s sophisticated laser technology, there are numerous effective laser treatments available to patients seeking to improve the look of their skin. And more innovative new options are becoming available all the time.

Lasers can create remarkable improvements to the way the skin looks and acts, treating such signs of aging as wrinkles, lines and the effects of gravity, as well as damage caused by sun exposure such as brown spots, pigmentation changes and problems with skin texture. For an introduction to the various laser treatments available, and to decide if one is right for you, the first step is to consult a board certified plastic surgeon.

For a thorough assessment of you skin, one should only trust a highly skilled physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse. During your assessment, you should discuss your skin revitalization goals as well, to help determine which treatment option to use.

Using a special energy form, lasers treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne scars, age spots, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and other signs of aging and sun exposure. Deciding on which treatment option to use is one you will make with your physician, but understanding the many options available is an important step in helping you make that decision.

There are currently two categories of laser treatments available, ablative or non-ablative. Each has its advantages in treating various skin issues. Your doctor can help you decide which option is best for you.

Ablative treatments work by removing the epidermis and a portion of the dermis, allowing fresh, new skin to emerge through the healing process, offering a younger, revitalized look. Ablative procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, either under general anesthesia, sedation or topical anesthetic.

Recovery time varies, depending upon the extent of treatment and type of lasers used, ranging from a few days to a few weeks. After care for this treatment includes, avoiding sun exposure and following a skin care regime as prescribed by you physician. Pearl, laser peels, and fractionated erbium resurfacing are commonly used ablative procedures.

With non-ablative procedures, the skin remains intact. They often work by stimulating collagen production in the skin, improving tone, and texture. Non-ablative treatments can be used on the face, neck, hands and chest. Generally performed in a medical spa using a topical numbing cream if needed, these procedures can be combined with other treatments such as dermal fillers or Botox.

They require little to no downtime with several treatments typically needed to achieve desired results. These treatments include dermaplaning, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, intense pulsed light (IPL), Titan, and Laser Genesis.

There are several factors to weigh when considering laser skin treatments, such as downtime, anesthesia, the risks associated with the treatment, the number of treatments needed, and the results offered. Your physician can help you weigh these factors and choose the one that best suits your needs.

The Naked Truth - Electrolysis Compared to Laser Hair Removal

How well does electrolysis work compared to laser hair removal? Electrolysis is the old heavy hitter in the world of hair permanent hair removal. The process destroys hair at the roots using needles and electricity, has been around in one form or another since the late 19thcentury and gained popularity throughout the 20th century. Not until the 1990's did a new technology arrive to rival electrolysis as a means of lasting hair removal.

This new hair removal technique was called laser hair removal or photoepilation. Laser hair removal was a more modern approach to lasting hair removal through the destruction of hair at its root. Since then, hair removal by laser has become the aesthetician and dermatologist's new best friend with many providers doing landmark business removing hair for males and females alike. Food and Drug Administration approved and widely accepted among dermatologists as an efficient means of hair removal, it is no surprise to see laser has risen quickly in popularity.

Each approach possesses unique benefits and drawbacks. Electrolysis offers truly permanent hair removal-a claim supported by the FDA-but, it is expensive, time consuming and therefore works best on small areas of the body. This fact leaves electrolysis ideal for the upper lip and eyebrows, but not a practical solution for removal of hair on the back or legs. Meanwhile, laser easily covers large portions of the body, but requires several sessions and primarily reduces and lightens hair growth rather than removing it on a permanent basis.

Additionally, until recently, laser worked best for the removal of dark hair from light skinned people. People with dark hair and dark skin or those of a fairer complexion could expect mixed or even limited results under the laser. Advances continue to be made, but electrolysis remains the most effective permanent hair removal option for the aforementioned groups of groups of individuals.

Should you choose electrolysis or laser hair removal? The answer depends on several things: the amount of hair you wish to remove, your complexion and your budget. The real differences that arise when electrolysis is compared to laser hair removal are the ones dictated by your hair removal goals.
