Preparing For Your First Laser Hair Removal Appointment

A month or more in advance

Lose the tan! The lighter your skin is when you have your laser hair removal treatment, the more effective and long lasting your results from laser hair removal are likely to be.

Stop waxing, tweezing, epilating and using depilation creams at least 2 weeks prior to treatment, and ideally a month or more.

The week of your appointment

Consider booking time off work if you are having happinesslifetime.com facial laser hair removal and feel you might be self-conscious about the redness that is likely to be present right after your treatment. For other areas of the body, you can probably go straight back to normal activities after your laser hair removal appointment.

Think about whether you want to take photos of the area to document your progress. The clinic may do this but either way you might want to take your own.

The night before

Now is a good time to shave the areas you are going to have laser hair removal done on. If you shave within 24 hours of the laser hair removal treatment you will find it is less painful and it can also be more effective because less of the laser energy is wasted on burning the hair above the skin, meaning more energy is directed where it is needed, at the root, to kill it off.

The morning of your appointment

If you are having your underarms treated, skip the deodorant. Just wash them with soap and rinse thoroughly. If it's a hot day and you are at risk of getting too sweaty before your appointment, you could use unscented baby wipes to prevent any smells.

For any areas of the body, don't put lotions or creams on before laser hair removal.

An hour before your appointment

If you are using a topical anesthetic such as EMLA, you can apply this now. These products are excellent if you are worried about pain during the treatment, however do be cautious if you are applying it to large areas of skin as the chemicals are absorbed into the bloodstream. Follow the directions carefully.

20 minutes prior to your appointment

Now is the time to take two Tylenol - there's no need to feel more pain than you have to when undergoing laser hair removal.

Good luck with your laser hair removal treatment!
