Ways of Clearing Skin Age Spots

For those thinking of clearing skin age spots, it might be interesting to know exactly what they are first, because then the right treatment can be found before trying to remove them. So for those who do not know, what are skin age spots?

Age spots, sometimes known as liver spots, have nothing to do with the liver. Because they have a similar colour to the liver, in the past it was thought that this was a cause of some ailment affecting that part of the body. The hands, forehead, face, shoulders and those areas exposed to the sun are generally where they are seen.

These blemishes begin to show up around the age of forty due to the skin not regenerating as well as it should, and a result of exposure to the suns ultra violet rays. They can be several colours from light brown, to dark brown and red. They are harmless except in a few minor cases where they have masked a skin cancer.

When trying to remove or clear them, there are a few different methods which can be tried. One is the use of liquid nitrogen, this practice is also used on skin cancers which are only of a minor problem. Liquid nitrogen is made from nitrogen gas which has been cooled to a stage where it becomes a fluid at approximately 165 degrees below zero. When used at this temperature it can kill cell tissue creating a small blister where it is applied.

Another is removal by the use of a laser. There are three used for this type of work. The Ruby laser and Medlin laser are used to treat freckles in lighter coloured skin, while the third is the Gemini laser which is used for treatment on people with a darker colour.

Another is the use of a high frequency electrical tool called electrosurgery, which is used as a precision instrument to either, cut, dry, clot blood or for the use in destroying tissue. Blemishes can be taken off in a precise way when using this instrument, while not affecting other tissue around them.

A natural way may be coconut oil, which has been said to improve wrinkles, sagging and brown spots. Being one of the very few oils not processed in the way some face creams are, it retains its antioxidants properties and is absorbed well by the skin. It can have a deep nourishing effect which also strengthens and helps protect from the suns rays.

There are other methods such as chemicals and bleaching. For those contemplating removal of these blemishes it may be worthwhile to research all procedures before attempting anything, especially where the face is concerned as a disaster can be worse than the original.
