A New Method to Seal Up Wounds and Surgical Incisions by Nano-technology and Lasers

Experimentally the incisions were treated one half with the new laser/nanotech treatment, and the other half with conventional sutures. The difference in healing was obvious.

The use of this technology will replace the traditional sutures and staples that were used to repair skin wounds. This process uses a dye that coats the open wound and is then left exposed to green light for 2 to 3 minutes. This dye absorbs the light and then catalyses the molecular bonds that are present in between the tissue collagen. These bonds then create an instant seal that is water tight, for attaching tissues. This technology is called Photochemical Tissue Bonding (PTB). This process prevents the risk of infections or any inflammation, thus speeding the scar formation.

The process is a simple method that uses a hand held device about a foot long and a few inches wide. This can be used to treat the wounds such as eye wounds and injuries from shrapnel, which can benefit from the patch version of the treatment. The wound might be sealed by the formation of a biological membrane that is formed over the eye, which quickly seals the opening by the use of laser. The soldier can undergo a more intensive surgery afterwards while preventing from worsening of the wound in the battlefield.
