Feel Like a Kid Again With Laser Hair Removal

Summertime and the living is easy, except for the constant shaving, depilatories, or waxing necessary to look good in bathing suits and summer clothes. Shaving can cause nicks and cuts. Depilatories take forever. Waxing is just painful, especially in the bikini area. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there were some way to make the hair go away forever? For many women, there is a way. It's laser hair removal.

Permanent hair removal is achieved by using lasers. The intense beam of light is passed over the skin, damaging the hair follicle to inhibit future growth. It usually takes several treatments for the hair to stop growing altogether. For most people, the hair loss is permanent, although a few people will experience some regrowth

Even so, the new growth is generally finer and lighter in color than the original hair. Lighter skinned patients with dark hair are the ideal patients. Patients with blond or light colored hair have less success. Darker skinned patients can have the procedure but there is a risk of lightening the skin.

Laser hair removal is a relatively painless procedure. The professional will give the patient goggles to protect the eyes from the laser beam. You might experience a bit of skin irritation after a treatment. Sometimes the skin darkens or lightens but this is usually temporary. There is a risk of scabbing or scarring but this is very rare. Also rare are permanent skin changes.

The biggest benefit to laser hair removal is how freeing it is. Most patients find the hair loss permanent or much more easily maintained. Consider shaving, which needs to be done every day. By pulling the sharp blades across the skin, you risk nicks and cuts. Besides being painful and unsightly, they can become infected and scar. Shaving particularly sensitive places such as the bikini area can leave you with itchy, ugly bumps called razor burn. And again, it needs to be done every day.

Depilatories might give you an extra day or two before you need to reapply but they have their drawbacks, too. First, you have to stand around for ten minutes or so waiting for the chemical to do its job. They smell bad. Many people can't use them at all because they have allergic reactions to them. And the hair comes back in a couple of days so you have to start all over again.

Waxing, on the other hand, can last up to six weeks. Unfortunately, it's painful, as you are ripping the hair out by the root. And, once the hair starts growing back, you have to let it grow to at least a quarter of an inch before you can wax again. Not a pretty sight.

While there is no guarantee that laser hair removal will be permanent, for many people it is a far better alternative to other hair removal methods. It's relatively painless, takes only a few treatments, and may free you from ever needing to remove hair again. Imagine summer as carefree as when you were a child. Consider laser hair removal.
