Laser Hair Removal - Are You a Good Candidate For Treatment?

Laser hair removal is the latest technology to help us get rid of unwanted hair from all over our bodies but it is more successful for some than for others. Laser clinics should help you determine if you are suitable for treatment, however here are some general guidelines.

You are a good candidate for the treatment if you:-

1. Can tolerate a degree of discomfort.

Laser hair removal is not painless. You can expect it to sting a bit. Some say it is like an elastic band pinging against your skin. You may be given some antiseptic or anesthetic cream to help reduce the pain but you will still feel something if hair follicles are being zapped with the laser and destroyed (which, after all, is the object of the exercise).

2. Have Fair Skin and Dark Hair

Laser light waves target the dark pigment in hair. if you also have dark skin you may find that the skin absorbs as much of the energy as the hair and the treatment will not be so effective. If your hair color is fair, gray or red then it may not absorb enough energy to be destroyed. If you have this type of situation you will need to discuss whether laser hair removal is right for you.

3. Are Not a Sun Worshipper

Avoid exposing the areas of your skin to be treated to the sun as the skin will be both darker (already a disadvantage as we have already noted above) and you will be more sensitive to the treatment.

4. Have Deep Pockets

There's no doubt about it, a course of laser treatment is expensive and the more and larger the areas you want to treat the more expensive it gets. You may also need sessions every so often after you finish your main set of treatments to deal with any regrowth which may have occurred over a number of months. There's no point in starting with laser hair removal if you can only afford one treatment as one treatment is not enough to remove hair from any area of the body permanently.

If you can't afford salon treatments you could think about buying a home laser or electrolysis machine but you must be sure to follow the instructions to the letter and review whether such a system would be suitable for you before buying.
