Nd-YAG Laser Hair Removal For Dark Skin Types

In the past having dark skin meant that laser hair removal was out of the question. This was because all the lasers that were used were mainly designed to work on light skin, and therefore if a dark skin person had this procedure then the ensuing pain would have been unbearable.

This was because the lasers used operated in such a way that if you had light skin, the energy from the lasers would pass through the skin and thereon go to the root of the hair and kill it from beneath the skin.

Whereas having dark skin meant that instead of the laser energy painlessly passing through the skin, the energy from the laser would be absorbed by the skin and the result was that the patient would experience pain and blisters on the skin which caused scarring amongst other skin damage.

As time went on and the demand from people with darker skin increased for laser hair removal, development in technology has allowed laser hair treatment for people with dark skin to be possible.

This has meant that people with dark skin types can get treatment without suffering damage to the surrounding tissue.

The technology that has allowed this process has come to be known as ND:YAG.

ND:YAG was developed for the darker skin to allow the energy to pass through the skin and get to the hair follicles and therefore avoid the skin burning problems.

Nd:YAG laser hair removal systems works well with all skin colours, it has a fast repetition; so your stay at the clinic won't be too long. The added benefit of ND:YAG lasers are that it can be used on large areas like the legs and the back.

Like all laser hair removal methods, ND:YAG lasers produce results that are semi permanent. In the long term, there may be some regrowth; but rest assured that it will be a slow regrowth and most of the hairs that regrow won't be like what you had before.
