Rosacea Skin Condition - Using Pulsed-Dye Laser As Treatment

Over 65 million Americans per year are affected by nasty and unceasing skin disorders called acne and rosacea. Bacteria combined with excessive oil production cause acne while weather, spicy food and stress produce rosacea. Teenagers are common victims of acne while rosacea, more often than not, affects fair-skinned women aging 20 to 50.

An often suggested cure for both is having a pulsed-dye laser treatment. A pulsed-dye laser treatment regulates the skin's oil-producing glands and lessens the irritation in the face by manipulating laser beams to be directed to an area of the skin. These beams reportedly heat the pigmentation to shrink them. In studies published in 2004 (Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology) and 2009 (Journal of Cosmetic Laser), the treatment proved to be effective in curing patients' condition and improving their quality of life. Abrasions brought about by acne were lessened but with minor side effects though. Rosacea symptoms were also diminished after a patient undergone the same treatment.

The treatment suggests that the patients submit themselves to continuous sessions or appointments as acne or rosacea cannot be immediately removed from the skin. For acne patients, six treatments should be done in more than twelve weeks while two sessions in over eight weeks should be arranged to those who suffer with rosacea.

There are side-effects though. However, they are just mild and can only cause slight discomfort to those who proceed with the treatment. There can be pain, redness and blisters - all of which are temporary. During the treatment, the patient may feel some cracking while the laser beam hits the affected areas.

Considering there are a number of side-effects, the patient should first discuss this with a dermatologist before getting the treatment. Precise analysis is the key to finding the cure for this problem. Self-diagnosis is very risky as only the experts know the type of rosacea skin condition you have or if the treatment will suit you. The dermatologist can only prescribe the right medication only after successful examination. For now, here are some of the prevailing treatments. One is by applying facial peel, facial and antibacterial cleansers to areas affected. Another is laser therapy. Last is microdermabrasion or skin peeling to strip the skin off unsightly irritations. It does not have unpleasant side-effects but it takes about five to twelve treatments before it cures.

To sum up, acne and rosacea are two major problems that millions of Americans are dealing with. Causes include hyperactive oil glands, bacteria, spicy food, weather and stress. Usage of laser beam or the method called pulsed-dye laser treatment is usually suggested. Although it cures acne and rosacea, there are minor side-effects that one can encounter. There are other alternatives such as facial cleansers, microdermabrasion and the like to cure the two disorders. Before choosing any of the treatments available, one must first consult an expert, preferably a dermatologist, to examine the patient's condition. Only then can you make a decision of undergoing any treatment. Always remember that knowing your acne or rosacea condition before taking any measures is the key to solving this problem.
